Clint Eastwood’s Daughter Reveals Why Acting With Him Was ‘Tough’

The Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood may be 92, but that doesn’t mean he’s slowed down in recent years, as he’s still been both acting and directing various projects. In his 2018 movie The Mule, which he directed and starred in, Clint decided to cast his real-life daughter Alison as the daughter of his character in the film. 

In a recent interview, Alison opened up about why acting with her father on this project “was tough.”

Alison Discusses Working With Her Father

When asked what it was like to be directed by her father, Alison said with a laugh, “Oh, he directed me multiple times. I worked with him as a kid, and then I worked with him as a young adult.”

“I last worked with him in 2018, which is when I retired from acting,” she added, according to The Express. “It felt appropriate to start my acting career with him and then end it with him as well. They were all great experiences, but different ones. But he always looked after me.”

Alison, 50, went on to explain what made acting with her father in The Mule more difficult than one would think it was.

“In 2018, I played his daughter in The Mule. It wasn’t a big role, but I played a character that didn’t speak to her father,” she recalled. “They had a very strained relationship, which is the complete opposite of what we have. It was tough to play someone who had such negativity and resentment towards him.”

“So when we were done shooting, I would go have a beer with him or something, so we could end the day completely happy and laughing,” Alison continued. “He’s an amazing director and there’s a reason why people love working with him.”

Clint Raised Children Away From Hollywood 

Alison is the daughter of Clint and his first wife Maggie Johnson, who he was married to from 1953 until they divorced in 1984. Though Clint was a big star by the time Alison was born, he made sure that she and her brother Kyle were raised away from Hollywood by moving them to Pebble Beach on California’s Carmel Bay. Alison is grateful that her parents made the decision to do that as she looks back now.

“I’m glad they did because it was a very magical upbringing,” she said. “We lived surrounded by the forest where we had baby deer, raccoons – all sorts of wildlife. And we were right on the ocean.”

“My brother and I would just go outside and enjoy nature,” Alison added. “I think that’s why I love animals and nature so much because I grew up in that kind of environment. It’s hard not to appreciate it on a very deep level.”

Clint’s Latest Project

Alison is one of Clint’s eight children, and he has always taken the role of being a father seriously. He’s also staying business in Hollywood, most recently directing and starring in the movie Cry Macho last year.

“[Cry Macho] is about a man who has been through some hard times in his life and then unexpectedly another challenge is brought to the foreground,” Clint previously told Entertainment Weekly of this movie. “He would normally never do it, but he is a man of his word. He follows through. And it starts his life over again.”

Clint truly is a one of a kind star, and his children are lucky to have a father like him. We can’t wait to see what projects he has lined up for the years to come!
