Will Whoopi Goldberg Be Fired This Time? These 41,000 People Hope So

A petition to fire Whoopi Goldberg from the ABC talk show “The View” for her past “tone deaf” and “racist” comments has now surpassed 40,000 signatures.

Petition Calls For Goldberg To Be Fired

A petition on Change.org currently sits at over 41,407 signatures, and it calls for Goldberg to be fired for her “repulsive verbiage and actions.”

“Whoopi has made numerous remarks about race that have ruffled feathers,” the petition states. “But her most recent comment attacking victims of the holocaust and the entire Jewish community are disgusting. Apologies are not enough when it comes to things like this[. T]his can and will not be forgotten.”

“We as Americans demand that she be fired from the daytime tv show ‘The View’ for her repulsive verbiage and actions,” it continued. 

Goldberg Claimed Holocaust Was ‘Not About Race’

The Sun reported that the petition was referring to offensive comments that Goldberg made about the Holocaust earlier this year when she said that it was “not about race.” 

“It’s about man’s inhumanity to man,” Goldberg added. 

When co-host Ana Navarro interjected to say that the Holocaust was about white supremacy, Goldberg dug her hole even deeper.

“Well, it’s about white supremacy. That’s what it’s about. It’s about going after Jews and gypsies,” Navarro said.

“But these are two groups of white people,” Whoopi responded. “You’re missing the point. The minute you turn it into the race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white because black, white, Jews … everybody eats each other.”

Goldberg Doubles Down Hours Later

Though she subsequently apologized on Twitter, she appeared to backtrack from the apology hours later during an appearance on “Late Night With Stephen Colbert.”

“I feel, being black, when we talk about race it’s a very different thing to me,” she explained.”So I said I thought the Holocaust wasn’t about race. And it made people very angry. I’m getting a lot of mail from folks and a lot of anger. But I thought it was a salient discussion because as a black person I think of race as being something that I can see.”

“When you talk about being a racist, you can’t call this racism,” Goldberg continued. “This was evil. This wasn’t based on skin. You couldn’t tell who was Jewish. You had to delve deeply and figure it out. My point is: they had to do the work.”

“If the Klan is coming down the street and I’m standing with a Jewish friend: I’m going to run,” she concluded. “But if my friend decides not to run, they’ll get passed by most times. Because you can’t tell who is Jewish. You don’t know.”

Goldberg Suspended From ‘The View’ For Only Two Weeks

Goldberg was then suspended by ABC for two weeks before she was allowed to resume her hosting duties on “The View.” Many thought this was little more than a slap on the wrist for anti-Semitic comments that were a slap in the face to the six million Jews who lost their lives in The Holocaust, which contrary to what Goldberg said, was very much about race.

It remains to be seen whether this petition will result in Goldberg being fired, but given how frequently she puts her foot in her mouth on “The View,” it might be in her own best interests if she’s let go. In the end, she has embarrassed herself so much and showcased her own ignorance to the world to such a degree that it might be time for her to go.
