Fran Drescher, who is best known for starring in the sitcom “The Nanny” in the 1990s, is speaking out this week to reveal why she’ll never get married again. In fact, she plans to grow old with her openly gay ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson, who is now her best friend.

‘We Still Love Each Other’

Drescher, 64, explained to Daily Mail that she and her ex-husband, who both created and co-produced “The Nanny,” are “closer than when we were married.”

“We still love each other,” she added.

Drescher and Jacobson were married from 1978 until they went through a nasty divorce in 1999. However, they were able to mend their relationship thanks to an agent who Drescher says convinced them “not to throw the baby out with the bath water.”

“We had a very wise woman, who was both our manager, at the time we were starting to separate,” Drescher recalled. “She advised us to reinvent the relationship and not throw the baby out with the bath water…there is love there. Maybe the marriage no longer works, but there should be a friendship that could still enjoy the test of time.”

“We took her sage words very seriously,” she continued. “Over the course of time, we kept moving towards each other and now we are probably closer than when we were married: business partners, best of friends and definitely a family.”

They even developed a show together based on their story, ‘Happily Divorced.” It ran for two seasons on TV Land.

Jacobson Is Her ‘Soul-Mate’

Drescher went on to say that she still sees Jacobson as her “soul-mate,” and that she can’t see herself ever marrying anyone else.

“I don’t think I will ever walk up the aisle with anyone. But I do see us growing old together,” she explained. “We are divorced, but still single because it is hard to compete with what we shared. We have been together since we were 15 and we’ve been through so much.”

Drescher also credits her strong Buddhist faith with helping her accept this breakup, and still be close to Jacobson.

“Like many people I have had high highs and low lows,” she said. “But I try to practice Buddhist philosophy. I always ask how can I rise above it, what can I learn and how can I come back a better person.”

“Bad things happen to good people. We just have to play the hand dealt with as much grace, courage and elegance as we can,” she added. “It is not always easy, but sometimes we falter.”

Jacobson Talks Bond With Drescher

Jacobson has also opened up about his bond with Drescher in the past.

“When you are lucky in life and you meet your soul mate, there is nothing that can tear you apart,” he said. “We vacation together. We do everything together… It is a deep, deep love.”

And like his ex-wife, Jacobson doesn’t see himself getting married again.

“I don’t think there is any reason to get married – it is just a license,” he said. “It is the heart, not a signed piece of paper.”

While it’s sad that Drescher doesn’t see herself walking down the aisle ever again, we’re glad to see that she also seems to be at peace with herself and with where her life is. Hopefully, she can find joy in life in ways besides marriage in the future.
