Backstory: Jada Pinkett Smith Speaks Out About Oscars Slap For The First Time

Rock ‘Not Concerned With The Smiths’

A source told Entertainment Tonight that Rock isn’t paying attention to Jada’s reconciliation “plea.”

“He’s not concerned with the Smiths at the moment,” the source said. “He’s touring and he’s preparing for a comedy special.”

The insider went on to say that Rock is a genuine person who does not make moves that are calculated, and that he is not part of any Hollywood scene. He’s not focused on the Smiths, as he is instead focusing on himself at this time.

Jada Addresses Oscars Slap

This comes after Jada addressed the slap for the first time publicly last week on her internet talk show “Red Table Talk.”

“Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” she said. “The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one other more than ever.”

“Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring this thing called life together,” Jada added.

Oscars Slap

Will stormed the stage and slapped Rock at the Oscars after the comedian made a joke about Jada being bald in which he compared her to the character G.I. Jane. This didn’t sit well with Will because Jada suffers from alopecia, a condition that has made her lose her hair.

An insider previously said that Jada “was glad that Will stood up for her” and that she “was hurt by Chris’ remark.” However, the backlash against Will has been swift, with him being banned from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for the next ten years.

Seemingly all of Smith’s Hollywood projects have been put on hold in the wake of the slap, and it’s been reported that he is going to therapy.

Will’s Apology

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” Smith said days after the Oscars, according to Yahoo News

“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Rock has returned to performing standup comedy, making only small references to the slap at times. He’s previously said that he will not be commenting on the slap publicly until he is paid to do so.
