The entire world was shocked back in March when Will Smith stormed the stage at the Oscars and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith being bald. Will took offense to this because Jada suffers from alopecia, a condition that made her lose her hair.

Now, all these weeks later, Jada has finally broken her silence about the slap for the first time on her Facebook talk show “Red Table Talk.”

Jada Breaks Her Silence

“This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars,” Jada said at the start on Wednesday’s episode, according to Daily Mail

“Thousands have reached out to me with their stories,” she added. “I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”

That’s when Jada shifted to specifically addressing what happened on Oscars night.

“Now about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” she said.

“The state of the world today, we need them both,” Jada concluded. “And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

Will’s Oscars Slap

Will was controversially not removed from the Academy Awards ceremony after the slap. Instead, he won an Oscar minutes later for his work in King Richard, and he was spotted hours afterward dancing to his own song “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” at the elite Vanity Fair Oscars party as the crowd cheered him on.

A few days later, however, Will backtracked and apologized, saying that he was “embarrassed” over his “unacceptable and inexcusable” behavior.

“My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he said. “Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris,” Will continued. “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

Backlash Against Will

Will has since resigned from the Academy, and been banned from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for the next decade.

Seemingly all of the upcoming projects he’s had in Hollywood have been put on hold over the slap, and sources say that he has been going to therapy.

Will his career will recover from this scandal? Or is this the end of the road for the Fresh Prince?
