Did Will Smith Inspire This Attack On Dave Chappelle? [VIDEO]

After Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, many comedians worried that the incident would lead to more violence against comics and other performers. The attack on Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl suggests that those comedians might not have been overreacting.

What Happened to Dave Chappelle?

In footage posted to social media, a man appears to lunge at Chappelle during his set. After the man is forcibly removed by event security, Chappelle continued to joke. He alluded to controversy about his material on transgenderism, saying “[it] was a trans man.”

Was The Dave Chappelle Attack Inspired By Will Smith?

In the aftermath of Will Smith’s Oscar’s slap, Kathy Griffin tweeted:

“Let me tell you something, it’s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a Comedian. Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters.”

She wasn’t the only comedian to express concern.

On SiriusXM’s the Dean Obeidallah Show, Judd Apatow said “[Y]ou’re somebody that people emulate, so it’s dangerous. You can’t have the Sidney Poitiers of the world behave that way.”

Some people felt like these comedians were overreacting, but this incident suggests that they might have been onto something.

The Attack Hurt Will Smith More Than Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle laughed off the attack, but it will certainly bring Will Smith more unwanted attention as people now have reason to rehash the slap for another news cycle.

Will Smith is still suffering losses in the aftermath of the slap, as his show This Joka was cancelled by Roku this week.

Dave Chappelle Took The Attack In Stride

Chappelle laughed the attack off, and his fans on social media did the same. In fact, it appears that they’re having some fun with it.

We’re glad Chappelle is OK! Hopefully this is the last chapter in “The Slap” Saga.
