Tyson Fury Defends Title, Hints At Retirement, Francis Ngannou

Tyson Fury finished Dillian Whyte to defend his WBC heavyweight championship Saturday.

The finish came in the sixth round from Wembley Stadium in London. Over 94,000 fans were in attendance.

The 33-year-old Fury made his second title defense to go along with his 2020 finish of Deontay Wilder. After that fight, “The Gypsy King” hinted at retirement, but the chance to fight at home kept him going.

“I got offered to fight at Wembley, at home, a fight I deserved,” Fury said (thanks to ESPN for the quotes). “I owed it to the fans. I owed it to every person in the U.K. to fight at Wembley.

“And now it’s all gone. I have to be a man of my word and think this is it. This might be the final curtain of The Gypsy King.”

Fury out-landed Whyte 76-9 and landed 47 power punches of the 100 he threw. He also had twice as many jabs thrown as Whyte. 

Fury is now 32-0-1 with 23 finishes in his career. 

Fury did leave the door open for something of a hybrid rules match with current UFC champion Francis Ngannou. Fury previously stepped inside the WWE ring.

“I want to have fun,” he said. “I’m an entertainer. It’s what I do best. (Ngannou) he’s on my hit list in an exhibition fight, however he wants it: in a cage, in a boxing ring, boxing gloves, UFC gloves, we can make it happen.

“I think everyone wants to see it. He’s a monster of a guy, I’m a monster of a guy, so it will be a clash of titans for sure.”
