Kirk Cameron Elon Musk

The world is still in shock after the billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter, and conservatives everywhere are hoping that he will champion free speech and put an end to the platform’s censorship of voices on the right.

Now, the conservative Christian actor Kirk Cameron of “Growing Pains” fame is giving his thoughts on Musk’s purchase of Twitter.

Kirk Cameron Sounds Off

“I like Avenger movies,” Cameron began. “While we all love a savage superhero… looking to one man with lots of money and power to fix our problems is how people unwittingly enslave themselves. How? By looking to the wrong source for their freedom and protection.”

“While I’m thankful for Elon’s crusade to save free speech, it should have been ‘we the people,’ (all of us) full of faith and character who render bad companies powerless (by holding them accountable) and build good ones in their place (by putting our money and time where our mouth is),” Cameron said.

“Perhaps, and I hope, that is exactly what Elon is doing,” he added. “But if we want lasting freedom and blessing, we must not look for a Captain America to be our free speech Savior. The Savior position has already been permanently filled by the only qualified candidate, and ‘we the people’ need to step up our game and self-govern with our combined powers of faith, character, and courage, or a bigger, badder Thanos will gladly fill the void and do the governing for us.”

Musk Buys Twitter

This comes after The New York Post reported that Twitter’s user growth is surging in the wake of Musk buying the platform. Twitter’s daily active users grew 16% to 229 million during the quarter ending on March 31, which is a period that ended days before Musk disclosed his 9% stake in the company.

Twitter accepted Musk’s $44 billion buyout one week ago in a deal that will likely be finalized later on in 2022.

“The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and completion of regulatory review and Twitter’s stockholder approval,” Twitter said in a statement. “The transaction, which is expected to close in 2022, has been approved by the board of directors of Twitter.”

Musk Discusses ‘Free Speech’ On Twitter

Earlier this week, Musk discussed his thoughts about “free speech” on Twitter.

“By ‘free speech,’ I simply mean that which matches the law,” he said. “I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.”

We stand with Kirk Cameron in the hopes that Musk will continue to champion free speech on Twitter! It will certainly be interesting to see how this all turns out.
