Donny Osmond Reveals Why Being A Child Star Is A ‘Curse’ – ‘Difficult To Break Out Of’

Legendary entertainer Donny Osmond launched his Hollywood career at the tender age of 5, so he knows a thing or two about what it’s like to be a child star. In a new interview, the 64-year-old performer is opening up about why being a child star can actually be a “curse.”

‘It Is A Curse When You Hit It Big As A Little Kid’

“It is a curse when you hit it big as a little kid because everyone wants to keep you in that pigeonhole,” Osmond explained to Fox News.

“And it’s really difficult to break out of it. Some people have been able to do it successfully,” he added. “Look at Justin Bieber. He’s done an amazing job. However, he didn’t go through it easily either. He had some hard times breaking through that image.”

Osmond went on to say that patience was one of the most important things when it came to making it himself.

“I decided long ago that I wasn’t going to do it with scandals, trickery or promotional campaigns,” he said. “I was going to do it with my music, which is a really difficult way to do it. But it happened. And it took me 10 years. But I wanted the music to speak for itself.”

‘It’s Very Difficult’

“It’s very difficult to break out of that teenybopper career,” Osmond continued. “But thank goodness that through perseverance and a lot of support from my fan base, it happened. But it takes an awful lot of work to be accepted as an adult.”

After selling over 100 million albums throughout his decades-long career, Osmond is now focusing on his solo residency in Las Vegas.

“I have gone through so many incarnations,” Osmond said. “And every time one of those incarnations came to an end, you start again. I had to keep reinventing myself. We all start again many times in our lives.”

Osmond Has No Plans To Retire

Though he is currently in his mid-60s, Osmond has no plans to retire anytime soon.

His rendition of “Puppy Love” turned 50 this year. That’s hard to fathom!

Take a look:

“The truth is, without trying to sound cliché, I love what I do,” he gushed. “I love getting on stage. I love singing and entertaining. To me, yes, it’s a job and I work hard at it, but there’s something about the magic of show business.”

“There’s something about that curtain going up, the lights hitting you, the band going and the fans cheering. But I also want to rebuild my way,” Osmond concluded. “People will always give you advice on how you should do things, and not all of it is good. That’s why it was so important for me to stick with what I truly believed in.”

Here’s his song “Start Again” from his 65th album released in September 2021:

God bless Osmond for continuing to show the world that a good Christian man can have decades of success in the entertainment industry without having to trade in his morals. We can’t wait to see many more performances from Osmond in the years to come!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
