Yesterday, we reported that Whoopi Goldberg had been suspended from “The View” for two weeks for saying that the Holocaust was not about race. Now, sources are saying that she is “humiliated” and “livid” over the suspension that she is threatening to quit “The View.”
Check out the comments that Goldberg into this mess below.
Backstory: Calls Grow For Whoopi Goldberg To Be Fired After She’s Suspended From ‘The View’
A source told The New York Post that Goldberg feels “humiliated” that she was disciplined by ABC despite following network executives’ advice on how to handle the scandal.
“She feels ABC executives mishandled this. She followed their playbook. She went on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ and then apologized again on ‘The View’ the next day,” the insider said.
The source went on to say that while Goldberg is livid over the suspension and probably really does want to leave the show, it’s unlikely that she will actually go through with departing.
“Her ego has been hurt and she’s telling people she’s going to quit,” the source said. “Suspension from ‘The View’ is like getting suspended from Bravo. The bar is very low.”
It started on Monday, when Goldberg argued that the Holocaust was not about race when they were discussing a Tennessee school district’s decision to ban “Maus,” Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel.
“The Holocaust isn’t about race. No, it’s not about race,” Goldberg said. “It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”
Though she apologized the next morning, ABC President Kim Godwin still suspended her on Tuesday night, saying that such decisions “are never easy, but necessary.”
“Words matter and we must be cognizant of the impact our words have,” Godwin wrote in a memo to staffers in which she described Goldberg’s comments as being both “wrong and hurtful.”
Goldberg’s co-hosts on “The View” are reportedly also angry that she was suspended.
“I love Whoopi Goldberg. I love ‘The View,’” said co-host Ana Navarro. “This was an incredibly unfortunate incident. Whoopi is a lifelong ally to the Jewish community. She is not an anti-Semite, period. I am sad. And I have nothing else to say.”
Navarro doubled down on this in an interview with CNN, saying that Goldberg’s colleagues “know what’s in her heart” and that she’s “not an anti-Semite.”
“When you have five women, discussing complex topics, in five-minute segments on unscripted, live TV, sometimes things come out the wrong way,” she added. “We are human and make mistakes. The difference between us and others is, we acknowledge it and try to correct it. Whoopi clarified and apologized without caveats.”
It should be noted that in 2018, ABC fired Roseanne Barr for making comments that were dubbed to be racist, so simply suspending Goldberg could certainly seem like a slap on the wrist for her to some.
It’s likely that ABC just wants Goldberg off the air for a few weeks until this news cycle blows over, at which time they feel she can resume her duties on “The View.”
In the end, Goldberg is a shameless leftist, and the liberal media always protects their own. Fans of hers can rest assured that she’ll be back on “The View” in no time.
