Morgan Wallen rapper Lil Durk perform Nashville after n-word Grand Ole Opry scandal

American rapper Lil Durk is taking a stand for the disgraced country music star Morgan Wallen, suggesting that the popular “Whiskey Glasses” singer can’t be cancelled over his n-word scandal.

Rapper Lil Durk Defends Morgan Wallen

While performing at the Martin Luther King Freedom Fest in Nashville, Tennessee, Lil Durk invited Morgan Wallen onstage with him, describing the country star as “genuine at heart.”

“Can’t nobody cancel s— without me saying,” Lil Durk added, according to Fox News.

Wallen greeted Lil Durk with a handshake before yelling “what’s up Nashville” to the crowd. The country star then teamed up with the rapper to perform their hit song “Broadway Girls” while the crowd cheered.

Morgan Wallen’s N-Word Scandal

This unlikely collaboration comes nearly one year after Wallen was caught on camera saying the N-word while returning home from a night out with friends. This led to him being dropped from his record label and rendered ineligible at various awards shows.

“I was around some of my friends and we just, we say dumb stuff together. In our minds it’s playful. It sounds ignorant but that’s really where it came from, and it’s wrong,” Wallen said in an interview about the incident. “We were all clearly drunk and I was asking his girlfriend to take care of him because he was drunk and he was leaving. I didn’t mean it in any derogatory manner at all.”

Despite attempts from the left to permanently cancel Morgan Wallen, his music has still been incredibly successful. In fact, the 28-year-old singer just announced his 2022 tour dates.

Grand Ole Opry Backlash

Earlier this month, the Grand Ole Opry came under fire for allowing Morgan Wallen to give a surprise performance.

Artist Holly G of ‘Black Opry’ fired back by sending a blistering public letter to the Grand Ole Opry for this alleged offense.

“They have figured out they can invite a few Black performers to the stage and give them debuts and that will quiet or calm people down for a little bit,” she said. “But if you look at the structural set up for the institution, nothing has changed. They have two Black members over the entire history of the institution.”

Morgan Wallen has admitted that what he said was wrong and gone to great lengths to make amends. The left needs to practice some forgiveness and allow this young performer to get on with his life and career.

We applaud Lil Durk for risking backlash himself by standing by Wallen in his time of need.
