It’s been nearly two weeks since the legendary “Golden Girls” star Betty White passed away at the age of 99, just seventeen days shy of her 100th birthday. Now, her old friend Carol Burnett is reflecting on the “loving relationship” Betty White shared with her late husband Allen Ludden, who passed away forty years before she did.
Carol Burnett Reflects On Betty White’s Love For Allen Ludden
Burnett told People Magazine that she had known White since before she married Ludden in 1963, and that she said after his death that she would never marry again because she had already “had the best.” White said the same thing in a 2014 interview with Larry King, which you can watch below.
Burnett went on to say that White and Ludden were “terrific together.” When Ludden became sick with cancer, White was working on “The Carol Burnett Show.” Even when he became “very, very sick,” Burnett said White still “soldiered through.”

White’s Devotion To Ludden
“I just felt so bad because we were doing this show, and she would come and rehearse and then leave and go to the hospital,” Burnett recalled. “She had to be suffering something awful, because they loved each other so much, but she didn’t let it hinder coming to rehearsals or during the performance. And she was brilliant as always.”
Burnett then said that White and Ludden were “very loving, but also funny,” adding that “she’s very funny, and Allen had a great sense of humor. I’m sounding like Pollyanna here, but it was joyful. There’s no other way to describe it.”
Burnett concluded by saying that she can “only imagine” how losing Ludden so many years ago affected White, saying that “they were very, very devoted to each other.”

Betty White’s Cause Of Death
White died on December 31, six days after she suffered a stroke.
“It was a mild stroke,” a source told People Magazine. “She died peacefully in her sleep.”
“Betty passed in her sleep peacefully without pain,” added Jeff Witjas, White’s longtime agent. “To me this is the most important thing and brings me comfort as her dear friend. Anything else is private to Betty.”
It was Witjas who made the sad announcement on New Year’s Eve that White had died.
“Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” Witjas said at the time. “I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”
Fans of Betty White’s can draw comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her love Ludden again.
