We have a couple weeks still but it will be Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze ringing in 2022 in the UFC.
The next UFC event is set for Saturday, January 14 with the location yet to be announced.
Officials, though, have put the two featherweight contenders in the headline bout.
Just a handful of fights have been confirmed to go along with it. Some of the notable fighters set to compete include Brian Kelleher, Court McGee, Katlyn Chookagian, Jennifer Maia and Chase Sherman.
Kattar is coming off a decision loss last January to Max Holloway. That snapped his two-fight in streak, which included victories over both Dan Ige and Jeremy Stephens.
The 33-year-old is 22-5 overall with 11 knockouts and two submission wins. Kattar has gone 6-3 since signing with the UFC in 2017.
His opponent, Chikadze, is unbeaten inside the Octagon. His 2021 included finishes of both Edson Barboza and Cub Swanson.
In 2019, Chikadze bested Brandon Davis in his debut, reeling off four more wins in 2020. His unbeaten streak dates back to 2018 and eight fights overall.
This will be an interesting bout for both fighters. It is the toughest test to date for each man, with the winner positioning themselves for a big opponent later in 2022.
