Julianna Pena did exactly what she said she would do: dethrone Amanda Nunes.
While nobody outside of Pena’s camp believed her, the former Ultimate Fighter winner left UFC 269 with the title around her waist.
“I’m not surprised (expletive),” Pena said. “I told you.”
Pena locked in a rear-naked choke that forced Nunes to tap in the second round. She was one of the biggest betting underdogs on the card, but left the T-Mobile Arena shocked.
The two had a series of exchanges early in the fight, with Nunes appearing to get the better of them. However, the double-double champion couldn’t put Pena away.

While the two had some ill-words for one another in the lead to the fight, Nunes was respectful of her opponent after.
“I did everything,” she said. “I trained very hard for this fight. Congrats to Julianna.”
