UFC Still Unsure Of Future For Women’s Featherweight Division

For now, the UFC will continue with a female featherweight division.

Moving forward, though, things could change.

In an interview this past weekend, UFC president Dana White discussed the future of the 145-pound class.

“It’s going to depend on what the champ wants to do,” White said (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “We’ve got this fight coming up with her. We’ll see how that fight plays out, and then we’ll figure out what we’re going to do with that division.

“Yeah, I don’t know.”

White is referring to Amanda Nunes, who holds both the featherweight and bantamweight titles. She is set to defend vs. Julianna Pena at UFC 269 later this year.

Nunes has handled both divisions for the past several months.

Would the UFC be better off stocking one weight class instead of having two? Or would the addition of say Kayla Harrison from the PFL change the course of the featherweight future.

The world of MMA is one of the few sports that brings together people from all walks of life. I try my best to tell those stories and also present breaking news to the masses.
