Patricia Heaton of “Everybody Loves Raymond” fame took to Twitter over the weekend to praise NBA star Enes Kanter, an outspoken Nike critic, for taking a stand for democracy and against Communist China with his ongoing #StandWithTaiwan campaign.
“Thanks @EnesKanter for standing up for freedom and the oppressed,” Heaton wrote alongside a video in which the Boston Celtics center calls out “one of the worst human rights abuses in the world today” in Xinjiang.
29-year-old Kanter has been playing for the NBA since 2011 when he was a third overall pick. The current Boston Celtics center was born in Switzerland to Turkish parents.
Enes Kanter is an outspoken critic of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as well as China’s government and its President Xi Jinping. His criticism of the Turkish president even got his Turkish passport revoked.
With Joe Biden set to meet with Xi today, Kanter called on him to bring up the atrocities Uyghur Muslims face and issues regarding Tibet and Hong Kong.
Fox News reported that Kanter recently called out the NBA and Nike for not taking a stand against China and any human rights abuses occurring there.
“Nike, obviously, is one of the biggest — the biggest sponsor for NBA. And two years ago when all the Black Lives Matter happened, Nike was one of the first companies out there, was standing with Black Lives Matter,” Kanter said.
“Nike stands with Stop Asian Hate. Nike stands with LGBTQ community. Nike stands with Latino community. But when it comes to China, Nike remains silent because China is the big boss for Nike,” he added, going on to say that “they know what they’re doing wrong. They’re one of the biggest hypocrite companies in the world.”
Of course, Kanter’s campaign stands in stark contrast to Colin Kaepernick’s blind eye when it comes to Nike and China.

Kanter also said that he does not see his campaign as political. “People think I do politics. I don’t do politics,” he said. “I do human rights.”
Enes Kanter is also a strong supporter of Taiwan in its quest for freedom from China.
He has even debuted specially designed basketball shoes that feature the green flag of the Taiwan independence movement alongside the words “democracy” and “independence.”
As for Patricia Heaton, she is one of the few openly conservative Christian actresses in Hollywood. She regularly speaks out about humanitarian issues such as abortion, and she is unapologetically pro-life.
“I don’t understand why pro-life people want to know if they are ‘welcome’ to join the democrat party,” Heaton tweeted last year. “Why would any civilized person want to support a barbaric platform that champions abortion for any reason through all nine months funded by taxpayers?”

Both Patricia Heaton and Enes Kanter are not afraid to stand up for what they believe is right.
These two champion real human issues. They use their global platform for good. They give a voice to the voiceless.
The world needs more people like these brave souls.
