It should be a fun SmackDown In A Nutshell this week, as we take in some blue brand brotherly love.
As in, SmackDown is in Philly, the city of Brotherly Love.
Of course, the more important thing is, Extreme Rules is Sunday.
So, we can primarily expect a lot of final hype for Sunday’s PPV, alongside that blue brand brotherly love in Philly.
We know Paul Heyman will continue to fear Brock Lesnar, but Lesnar is not the immediate challenge.
That honor, of course, is on Finn Balor.
So, let’s get right into the main event of the evening. It is time for…
Let’s crack open this Nutshell and see how things go!
That would be our main event. You can see that, down the road, WWE may have high hopes for a solo act by Montez Ford.
So, call this a sneak peek. He did good, even if he lost.
Was not too into the Nikki A.S.H/Natalya one.
But, less enthused by the Deville/Naomi segment.
Make the match
I could go with Montez Ford…he had a nice chance to shine.
Roman Reigns, because he’s been stellar.
The Demon, because well, why not.
I have two for this one
First…Boogs with the suplex on General Aziz, on the outside. Why?
Because Aziz is not a small guy…and is significantly bigger than Boogs.
Second, the slam of Kevin Owens onto the steel steps by both Happy Corbin and the returning Riddick Moss.
Kevin Owens? Maybe?
Expecting the final hype for Extreme Rules, this made sense.
Still, seeing Montez Ford take the post-match beating, only to have The Demon appear and do damage
I have to think that the announce table was not supposed to collapse just from Montez Ford standing on it.
I loved McAfee…again.
You can tell he is a fan (or, someone gave him some lines), relative to ECW.
Tons of extreme double entendres, and sure some was because of Sunday.
But when The Demon pulled out the Singapore cane (it’s Philly, it’ll always be that there) and McAfee shouted out “enter Sandman”…any old ECW guy like me knows exactly what or who he was talking about.
We covered this in the botch too…but how about that announce table?!
I mean, Montez Ford clearly was going to leap off of it onto Roman Reigns.
Instead…the table collapsed under Ford’s first couple steps. Ooops.
Yes, you saw it right. Riddick Moss…a man who I can’t remember when we last saw him…is back.
So, he’s now aligned with Happy Corbin.
With the rumors of Kevin Owens having an expiring contract…will WWE bury Owens? Or will KO get some backup?
Kind of over how much they are dragging out Sonya Deville and Naomi.
It’s painfully obvious that this is how we get the in-ring return for Sonya Deville.
The challenge is, at least for now, we know Deville is the heel…but Naomi isn’t exactly coming off as a great face either.
WWE did enough to make us think that The Demon could win on Sunday.
Honestly, it’s an Extreme Rules match…and we’ve heard teasers that Lesnar shows up.
Could Brock interfere, costing Reigns the title? Unlikely…but the door is open.
As someone from Philly, who spent weekends as a teen going to the ECW Arena or wherever they had shows running…the ECW references we got made me happy.
Also, lost in the shuffle?
The opening segment between Becky and Bianca was pretty strong. Lost because it was first.
I like Sami Zayn giving Dom some advice. Maybe it’s the sneaky heel, but it was also not the worst advice either
Seth Rollins is creepy and evil…and he called out Edge. Edge responded, saying he will see Rollins next week.
Well, it’s all over but the fighting on Sunday at this point.
WWE planted some interesting seeds for down the road…particularly have an eye on Alpha Academy staring off with The Usos. A future SmackDown tag title match, no doubt.
But, the blue brand enjoyed some brotherly love, heading toward Extreme Rules.
