Parents of students at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Washington were shocked to find that their children were recently given an assignment to plan the “perfect murder.”

Parent Horrified By Assignment

One parent, Brian Essl shared what happened with KHQQ6, “He told me they had to create and come up with a way to murder someone and get away with it. I was like are you kidding me?”

Essl took to social media to post the assignment that his son was given. He quickly connected with other parents who were outraged as well.

The assignment read in part:

Turn the following into real sentences and put them in a paragraph briefly explaining, ‘the perfect murder.’ Items should appear in your paragraph according to the order of importance. There are 10 ideas here, so if you remove one you have to add an idea of your own.

  1. It should be easy to arrange.
  2. It should leave no clues.
  3. There should be no noise.
  4. It should look like suicide.
  5. It should take place in a lonely, isolated place.
  6. It should not be cheap.
  7. No violence should be necessary.
  8. It should look like an accident.
  9. It should be quick.
  10. The murderer should have a good alibi.”

Essl Was Very Disturbed

Essl was understandably disturbed when he read the full assignment.

“How can someone assign a project like this to a child,” he said. “My son is not one to come to me about things like that, but he was shocked.”

The assignment was meant to be done before the students read the book “Lamb To The Slaughter,” which tells the story of a wife who successfully covers up the murder of her husband.

“It even had bullet points like how to get away with it…and make it look like a suicide,” Essl continued, referring to the assignment. “The judgment in that was so out of line. An assignment like that for high school kids should be thought out more than that.”

By the time Essl’s son told him about the assignment, he had already completed it and turned it in.

“Writing something down like that and getting a child to open up their mind in a way like that is not something you should ever do,” he said. “(My son) told me some of the kids said, ‘we’ve already planned this out with other friends.’ That was disturbing. So disturbing.”

Parent Confronts Teacher

When Essl confronted the teacher about the assignment, she apologized and said it had been pulled.

“She didn’t offer any kind of explanation or reason, like what was the reasoning for that,” he said. “I could see if it was a college criminal justice class but this was a language arts class for (freshman.)”

Essl said that he decided to go public with his stories to encourage other parents to be aware of what their children are being taught in schools. In the end, he’s horrified that his son and his friends had to go through this.

“How super uncomfortable for these (students),” he said. “I’m sorry they were put in this position.”

This serves as a reminder to parents everywhere that they need to be vigilant about staying on top of what children are taught in classroom.

It seems that critical race theory isn’t the only thing we need to worry about teachers indoctrinating our kids’ heads with!
