Braun Strowman was released by WWE, but they might be looking to bring him back. Also, AEW is interested in signing Buddy Murphy.
For over a year now, WWE has been releasing a bunch of employees. It includes wrestlers and those who work at the corporate office.
Some of those let go were not a surprise and others left people dumbfounded. One of the most surpassing to go was former Universal Champion Braun Strowman.
Well, it seems WWE is having second thoughts on their decision. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they stated the recent signings by AEW could see Strowman return to WWE.
As of now, there is no word if WWE has made Strowman an offer to return.
Over the past month, we have seen two former WWE superstars join AEW in Andrade El Idolo and Malakai Black. And, it is all but confirmed that Daniel Bryan and CM Punk are following suit.
When Strowman was let go, WWE freed up a bunch of money. Over twelve months ago, he re-signed with the company for $1.2 million per year.
So far, Strowman has not been booked for any shows since exiting WWE. There are reports he is asking for a six figure deal from local promotions, which is cash they likely do not have.
Since the story began circulating, Strowman posted a tweet. It features a lame segment with Bobby Lashley, but it scored over 131 million views on YouTube.
Clearly, the recent wave of singings by AEW has WWE concerned. Even if Strowman goes to AEW, it would not be the biggest jump to happen.
That honor will go to either Bryan or Punk. Honestly, Punk returning inside a wrestling ring after seven years is huge.
If AEW was not a threat to WWE before, they are now. WWE has survived many battles in the past, but this could be the biggest challenge since WCW.
Speaking of WWE releases, one of the names was Buddy Murphy. Although, unlike most of the people let go, he likely made the request.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noted AEW has shown interesting in signing him. At the same time, Impact Wrestling is looking to do the same.
Like Strowman, Murphy was released on June 2. Therefore, has to wait until August 31 before signing anywhere due to the 90 day non-compete clause.
Murphy is booked to wrestle AEW’s Brian Cage on September 18 for Battleground Championship Wrestling. That will take place in Philadelphia.
Based off the gossip, Murphy has plenty of options outside of WWE. Still, he needs to make sure his visa issues are resolved before he is offered a deal.
