UFC 264 Results: Dustin Poirier Cements Name, Bests Conor McGregor

Dustin Poirier got his hand raised and declared the winner over Conor McGregor at UFC 264 Saturday night.

For the second time in seven months, Poirier earned a finish over the former two-division UFC champion. With this one ending a little differently.

After the conclusion of the first round, the fight was stopped as McGregor suffered a broken ankle. The win made “The Diamond” 2-1 in the series with “Notorious.”

McGregor went to throw a punch and as he tried to plant his left leg, his foot bent over itself, causing the break.

In a meeting of former UFC welterweight title challengers, Gilbert Burns scored a decision victory over Stephen Thompson.

Burns, using his wrestling, was able to control Thompson, sweeping the scorecards and winning two of the three rounds.

Tai Tuivasa derailed the Greg Hardy train, finishing the former NFL standout in the first round. Tuivasa caught Hardy and finished him in 67 seconds.

Irene Aldana, who missed weight, earned a first round TKO victory over Yana Kunitskaya while Sean O’Malley stopped Kris Moutinho in the third round. Moutinho, who took the bout on short notice, earned many fans with his willingness to stand and continue to take punishment from O’Malley.

Max Griffin, Michel Pereira, Ilia Topuira and Dricus du Plessis all picked up wins on the ESPN prelims. Griffin topped former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit via decision.

Pereira downed Niko Price with Topuira finishing Ryan Hall in the first round and du Plessis doing the same to Trevin Giles.

On the early prelims, Jennifer Maia bested Jessica Eye in a hard-fought, three-round battle in the women’s flyweight division. The former Invicta FC champion swept the scorecards.
