Entertainer-turned-liberal activist Bette Midler will be a Kennedy Center Honoree despite her tweets contradicting the spirit of the “unifying” message the Kennedy Center is attempting to portray.

Midler’s entertainment career spans six decades. The “Hocus Pocus” star not only acts, but also sings and is a comedienne.

However, in recent years she has spent more time attacking conservatives than on stage.

Bette Midler also has been accused of being xenophobic for her attacks on Melania Trump and racist for her tweets about Black conservatives. And she also wished physical harm to a United States Senator.

Bette Midler Earns Kennedy Center Honor Despite Her Tweets

In fact, she was one of the celebrities hyper focused on President Trump. Midler found herself in hot water when she asserted Black men who supported Donald Trump weren’t thinking for themselves but were paid to be part of the “blackgound.”

“Look, there are African American men in this shot! How much did he pay them to be ‘blackground’?,” she said in a now-deleted tweet.

Hollywood aggressively tackles racist comments, but Midler is being awarded rather than reprimanded. If a conservative actor made similar statements, it could likely end his career and his reputation.

It certainly wouldn’t be rewarded. But, this is liberal Hollywood.

Melania Trump’s 2020 RNC speech really infuriated Bette.

The actress took offense to the First Lady’s accent and the fact that she speaks several languages.

This would be considered an achievement if Melania were a Democrat since they portray themselves as champions for immigrants.

But, Midler saw it as something to be ridiculed and a cause for deportation.

Bette Midler Wishes Harm To Rand Paul

The hateful actress even tweeted a call for physical harm to Senator Rand Paul after he was attacked by a neighbor.

The blindsided attack left Paul with six broken ribs and a punctured lung. It required removing part of the Senator’s lung.

Paul also was targeted by a Democrat activist who shot at the GOP Congressional team.

Midler believed Senator Paul deserves more trauma and injury. She got angry with Paul’s politics and tweeted, “Where is Rand Paul’s neighbor when we need him?”

Justino Díaz, Berry Gordy, Lorne Michaels, and Joni Mitchell are also slated to be honored by the Kennedy Center as was announced this week.

Ironically, the announcement included a mention of these award winners being unifiers. Midler is being given a pass on her tweets. But, this hypocrisy is normal and what we have come to expect from Hollywood.

“This year’s honorees represent the unifying power of the arts and surely remind us of that which binds us together as human beings,” Kennedy Center president Deborah F. Rutter stated. “These artists are equal parts genius, inspiration and entertainment.”

Past Kennedy Center Honors recipients include Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Kirk Douglas, Aretha Franklin, Morgan Freeman, and Placido Domingo. The Kennedy Center Honors will air December 5th on CBS.
