SmackDown In A Nutshell: Will The Usos Rise Again?

Hello folks! It’s our first SmackDown In A Nutshell of June, and we ask but one simple question: will The Usos rise again?

It truly is a simple question. For those who somehow missed last week, The Usos have themselves a SmackDown Tag Team Championship bout this week.

Jimmy and Jey may be having issues, with Roman Reigns smack in the middle of it all. Those issues didn’t stop Jimmy from brokering a tag title match…and here we are.

So, if for no other reason than that, we should have an interesting SmackDown In A Nutshell.

After all,  The Usos are one of the most decorated tag teams in WWE history. Can the brothers add another championship reign to their resumes?

Of course, this SmackDown In A Nutshell is not all about The Usos. Hell In A Cell is rapidly approaching, and there are plenty of matches yet to be booked.

Will tonight give us more to that card?

And, of course, the blue brand will be a little less Black this week…silly WWE….

So, with all that said, let’s get right into the point of it all…

SmackDown In A Nutshell: Will The Usos Rise Again?

Let’s crack open this Nutshell and find out!

Best Match of the night:

Well…how about our opening bout.

Or, the main event.

Wait…they were the same match?

No, we did not have a two hour Iron Man tag match. That could be both amazing and awful.

We did, however, have The Usos versus The Mysterios both open and close the show, and each was pretty much the best wrestling we had this time around.

Worst match of the night:

Carmella and Liv Morgan I guess? But we had a really bad chunk of show between the opening match and main event, outside of some backstage stuff with the Profits and Alpha Academy.

Though, even those segments were odd…because so far, they are merely building to a match. Nothing yet.

Star of the Night

I have nothing this time around. Like, Reigns and company continue to be good…but that’s par for the course at this point.

Spot of the Night:

Nothing spectacular here. I was feeling a Jimmy super kick on Reigns as Roman had Dom in the guillotine choke…but all it was was a tease.

Nothing to report.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

Surprised that we got basically one hour (felt like it anyways) dedicated to a mix of Roman Reigns, The Usos and The Mysterios

Equally surprised that we still have not had the physical altercation between Reigns and Jimmy that should surely bring us to their inevitable Cell match.

I mean, we all know it is coming, right? There’s surely one distinct reason they keep bringing up the last time WWE ran a Hell In A Cell PPV.

Botch of the night:

When Rey delivered the hurricanrana, ahead of his 619, Uso was way out of position and had to scramble, mid-bump, to get in position.

Noteworthy Moment:

Bayley and Belair is in motion, as expected.

We had nice segments with Street Profits and Alpha Academy. Hopefully, we get a nice in-ring program with them too.

Surprised to see WWE give time to the build of a tag feud. Used to seeing a team reunite one week and then get a title opportunity the next…

Overall lowlights:

Started with a strong opening bout.

Ended with a solid, if predictable, main event ending.

In the middle was too much meh. Some good, more bad.

Overall highlights:

As I watched the last ten minutes of SmackDown, thoughts hit me.

One, Reigns has been the champ for very nearly a year.

Two, Reigns seemed to be channeling his inner Lesnar on this SmackDown very much.

Like, how he dressed even, the shoes and track pants just reminded me of Brock. How he came in and destroyed Rey and Dom with the steps?

That felt like something Lesnar has done before (different weapon, but otherwise Lesnar had).

I cannot help but wonder if that is also intentional, even though RAW planted seeds of a Lesnar return there too.

After the final bell:

It was an interesting SmackDown In A Nutshell, that much is true.

So, did The Usos rise again? No, they did not.

They did look fine in the ring, but Roman Reigns didn’t want to see them lose twice in the same night, so we got interference and seeds planted for a Jimmy-Roman Cell match later this month.

Overall, the good parts overshadowed the bad parts.

Not a bad SmackDown In A Nutshell…even if The Usos did not rise again. At least, not this week.
