SummerSlam is less than 90-days away and John Cena vs. Roman Reigns has been discussed. Also, WWE does not want Eva Marie wrestling when she returns to TV.

John Cena Vs. Roman Reigns At SummerSlam?

The biggest party of the summer takes places in August as WWE presents their annual SummerSlam card. A big difference this year will be the event is taking place on a Saturday to avoid competition from boxing.

As of now, no matches have been confirmed and WWE is taking things slowly. They still have a few pay per views that need to happen before SummerSlam.

Although, there is speculation that WWE is looking at a major main event. It would see Universal Champion Roman Reigns take on a returning John Cena.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they noted how people backstage are talking about the potential bout. But, nothing is official.

Logistically, it seems like a good idea by WWE. Reigns returned last year at SummerSlam and won the title about a week later.

Since then, Reigns has become an unstoppable heel. Anyone put forward as fallen and Reigns is finally reaching his full potential.

Now, Cena last fought at WrestleMania 36 and has not appeared on WWE TV in over a year. He has been busy making movies and finishing up the Peacemaker TV series for HBO Max.

Because of his hectic schedule and all the traveling, bringing Cena back to WWE has been difficult. Yet, the past few weeks have seen plenty of rumors about Cena’s return.

Basically, WWE was looking for the right way to reintroduce him. With fans finally returning on the July 16 edition of SmackDown, WWE is looking to stack the card.

John Cena & Roman Reigns Have Past Heat

There has been talk of Cena appearing to help bring in a strong rating. At the same time, they could start to plant the seed for Cena vs. Reigns.

The two met once before, back at No Mercy 2017. On that night, Reigns outlasted Cena.

Heading into the match, both cut promos that were designed to be shoots. Those promos got fans talking and the rematch should do the same.

And remember, if Cena wins, he breaks Ric Flair’s record for the most World Championship reigns. Currently, Flair and Cena are tied at 16.

WWE re-signed Eva Marie in September of last year, but only recently started airing vignettes. Unlike her first run, which was not a success, WWE has a new approach.

According to Fightful Select, Eva is not scheduled to wrestle. Instead, she will be used as a “vehicle” to get other female superstars over.

She will be used as more of a role model type character. This would be much different than her previous heel run, where she found ways out of matches.

Plus, she was not the best wrestler. Maybe that has changed in the past few years, but WWE’s women division has some of the best talent around the world.

There is no word on when Eva will debut, although it could happen at any moment. Perhaps, WWE is waiting a little longer so they can have fans present and see what type of reaction she receives.
