Prince Charles Will Not Attend Princess Diana’s Statue Unveiling Due To ‘Regretful’ Memories

Prince Charles has reportedly snubbed his late ex-wife Princess Diana by revealing that he will not be attending the unveiling of a statue dedicated to her at Kensington Palace this week.

Charles Won’t Attend Unveiling

An insider told the UK Times that Charles, 72, will not be attending the unveiling of the statue on Thursday with his two sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

“He does find it terribly difficult,” the source explained. “These moments have the potential to resurface old wounds, and it brings back memories for him; happy, sad, regretful. Since Diana’s death, he has felt it’s best to keep those memories to himself and leave his sons to it.”

A source also said that Charles will not be meeting with William and Harry together, saying “Charles will leave the boys to it.” Also, Charles will be in Scotland during the unveiling.

William And Harry Scale Down Guest List

William and Harry were forced to “drastically” scale down the guest list for this event due to COVID-19 protocols.

“The princes worked very hard to create something that would be inclusive and truly honor their mother’s positive contributions to the world,” a source told Best Life. “Having to cut their list down to 30 guests would surely result in a lot of hurt feelings, which William and Harry certainly didn’t want, but it’s nonetheless disappointing.”

This change in plans came as a “shock” to Diana’s friends.

“I was shocked at first, but it’s understandable that William and Harry would rather defer the celebration they planned rather than have a watered-down version of it,” said one friend. “It’s deeply disappointing, but they really had no choice.”

Diana Would Not Be Happy About William And Harry’s Rift

This comes a week after royal biographer Andrew Morton, who secretly collaborated with Diana on his 1992 book “Diana: Her True Story,” spoke out to say that she would be upset if she were alive to see the rift that has formed between her sons.

“Diana said to me quite clearly on several occasions that she saw Harry as the wingman for William in what would be a very solitary, somber job as future king,” he said. “She would have been very upset at the way these two have split apart.”

The unveiling of the statue is set to take place on what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday.

Harry flew back to the United Kingdom for the first time since the funeral of his grandfather Prince Philip two months ago to attend this event.

William and Harry have reportedly requested that they give separate speeches during the event, reminding the world that they are not getting along well at all at the moment.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
