Tim Tebow Stephen A. Smith

Yesterday, we reported that Tim Tebow had signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end, marking his comeback with the NFL after years away from football. While many fans are excited about this, Tebow’s return did not sit well with ESPN host Stephen A. Smith, who slammed it as an example of “white privilege.”

Smith Sounds Off

Take a look at what Stephen A. Smith has to say about Tim Tebow playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars:

“If I’m gonna bring up white privilege when I brought up Steve Nash getting the job in Brooklyn, is this not an example of white privilege?” Smith said during ESPN’s “First Take.” “What brother do you know that’s getting this opportunity?”

“Now that makes people uncomfortable because we’re talking about race,” he added. “Let me be the first to say, I don’t give a damn how you feel. I mean what I say. It is white privilege.”

Tebow’s Comeback

This came after Tebow signed a one year deal with the Jaguars to play for the team as a tight end.

“I want to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to compete and earn the chance to be part of this team,” Tebow said in a statement. “I know it will be a challenge, but it is a challenge I embrace. I am dedicated to taking the direction of our coaching staff and learning from my teammates. I appreciate everyone’s support as I embark on this new journey.”

Tebow had been away from the NFL since 2015, when he concluded his career as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos.

During his time away from the sport, Tebow launched a career in professional baseball, playing for the New York Mets.

Smith Doubles Down

While Smith said that he’s happy for Tebow, he claimed that opportunities such as this one would not be given to black athletes like the “woke” liberal darling Colin Kaepernick.

“Because black people have repeatedly felt like we have the proverbial knee on our neck,” Smith continued. “We constantly have to scratch and claw our way. When we see someone of a different ilk, of a different ethnicity, getting opportunities we know we would never get, that’s where the words ‘white privilege’ comes from.”

Some called out Smith on social media:

Liberals have been losing is that Tebow has been signed to a team while Kaepernick has not been since leaving the San Francisco 49ers at the beginning of 2017.

They have tried to turn this situation into something racial, when in actuality, race has nothing to do with this at all.

Hopefully, Tebow can tune out all the noise from race-baiting haters like Smith and enjoy his NFL comeback as he should.
