Demi Lovato hair Drew Barrymore gender norms

Radically liberal pop star Demi Lovato proclaimed this week that she cut her hair so that she could be free “of the gender and sexuality norms” she claims were forced upon her “as a Christian in the South.”

It’s not uncommon for pop stars to change their look but Lovato cited a political motivation for chopping her long tresses.

Demi Lovato Tells Drew Barrymore Why She Cut Her Hair

The 28-year-old former “X-Factor” judge was born on August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Her parents divorced in 1994 and Lovato was raised in Dallas Texas.

While appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show” this week, Lovato gave a very interesting response to Barrymore’s comment about the “painstaking measures” to “fall into this cookie cutter silhouette” of a woman in the entertainment business.

The singer said, “I’m doing what I need to do for myself, and my wellness, my wellbeing, like, I’m putting myself first in front of my career, and that’s something I never did before, because I was so preoccupied, trying to be the sexy feminine pop star that I just, like, ignored, like, who I am.”

“I cut my hair because I just wanted to free myself of all of the gender and sexuality norms that were placed on me as a, you know, Christian in the South,” Demi Lovato added. “And when I cut my hair I felt so liberated, because I wasn’t subscribing to an ideal or a belief placed upon me to be something that I’m not.”

You can watch Lovato and Barrymore discuss what inspired the singer’s new pixie cut in the video clip below.

Demi Lovato Comes Out As ‘Pansexual’

This comes a month after Lovato came out as “pansexual,” saying that she is a “proud” member of the “alphabet mafia,” referring to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lovato said this when podcast host Joe Rogan asked her if she wants children in the future.

“I also don’t know if I’m going to end up with a guy, so I can’t really, like, see myself maybe even getting pregnant,” she said. “I’m so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was, like, super closeted off.”

Host Joe Rogan then asked if Demi Lovato meant she was “sexually fluid,” as in, “you like girls, you like boys?”

“Yeah, yeah, [I like] anything, really,” Lovato responded.

“What do they call that? ‘Pansexual’ or something like that?’” Rogan asked, to which Lovato replied, “Yeah, yeah, pansexual.”

What Is Pansexuality?

Pansexuality means being attracted to anyone, regardless of if they are a man or a woman.

“That’s hilarious,” Rogan said. “It used to be ‘bi.’ It used to be, ‘she’s bi,’ and now it’s, like, someone’s ‘pansexual.’”

“I heard someone call the LGBTQIA+ community the ‘alphabet mafia,’” Lovato continued. “And I was, like, that’s it, that’s what I’m going with. I’m going with that. So yeah, I’m a part of the alphabet mafia, and proud.”

This truly is one crazy world that we live in! We can only imagine what crazy things celebrities like Demi Lovato will do or say next.
