Pop Star Demi Lovato Educates Her 100 Million Followers On ‘Transphobic’ Gender Reveal Parties

Pop star Demi Lovato brands gender reveal parties to be "transphobic" because they imply "there are only two sexes for a baby."

Many people are starting to think that gender reveal parties are getting a bit out of hand, but pop star Demi Lovato is against them for an entirely different reason. Lovato took to Instagram on Thursday with a 9-page lecture explaining how gender reveal parties are “transphobic” because they imply that “there are only two sexes for a baby.”

Unabashed British host and television personality Piers Morgan couldn’t let this one pass without comment.

Demi Lovato Shares Post Declaring Gender Reveal Parties ‘Transphobic’

The 28 year-old singer used her Instagram page, which has nearly 100 million followers, to repost a message from transgender rights activist Alok Vaid-Menon.

In the lengthy lecture, Vaid-Menon rips into the pregnancy trend calling it “transphobic.”

“This is not about being politically correct, it’s about being correct,” the post read. “The refusal to acknowledge this stems from a misunderstanding of what transphobia is.”

“Transphobia is not just prejudice or violence against an individual trans person, it is a belief system that presumes non-trans people to be more ‘natural’ than trans people,” it continued. “Only individual people can self determine their gender.”

While you might be asking yourself how a baby might determine or communicate its gender, Vaid-Menon was just getting started.

Vaid-Menon Explains How Gender Reveal Parties Are ‘Transphobic’

The post’s explanation of “transphobia” is accompanied by a series of slides in which Vaid-Menon wrote that it is “both insincere and incorrect to pretend that gender reveal parties are not transphobic.”

“You can’t have your proverbial pink-blue binary cake and eat it too,” read one slide. “This in not about political correctness, it’s just… correct. We condemn gender reveals not because of our identity, but because of reality.”

“Transphobia is not just about prejudice against individual trans people, it’s also a way of thinking that understands non-trans people as more natural/organic and erases everyone else,” added another. “These ideas, like the gender binary, fuel mistreatment of all people, but especially trans and gender non-conforming people.”

Demi Lovato’s Instagram post went on to say that “gender reveals are based on the illusion that genitals = gender and that there are only two options ‘boy or girl,'” and that this way of thinking “erases the fact that there are boys with vaginas and girls with penises and that there are people who are neither boys nor girls.”

‘The Idea That Sex Is Based On Genitalia Is Inconsistent With Science’

“The idea that sex is based on genitalia is inconsistent with science,” the post stated.

That statement might seem contrary what you learned in your first middle school health class. Nevertheless, Vaid-Menon is here to set you straight.

“The assumption is that the baby is cis. Cisness is positioned as the default and everyone else is understood as derivative of it,” stated the post. “The idea goes: while we might ‘identify’ as trans now, we were ‘originally’ ‘born’ cis and we later ‘became trans. When in truth, everyone is just born. And we all become after the fact.”

In the caption of the post, Demi Lovato thanked Vaid-Menon “for sharing your knowledge and educating us always.”

While it can’t really be denied anymore that some gender reveal parties have gotten out of control, given the fact that some people are even getting killed participating in them, they are not inherently offensive.

To argue that it’s somehow “transphobic” for parents to celebrate the gender of their child as told to them by a medical professional is absolutely ridiculous, and it shows just how far our society has fallen in recent years.

We can only imagine what is branded to be “offensive” next.
