Morgan Wallen fallout

Weeks after country music star Morgan Wallen was caught on camera saying the N-word, things have gotten worse for him. In Indiana, the LaPorte County Fair Board has announced that his concert that was scheduled for July 14 has now been cancelled.

County Fair Board Cancels Wallen Concert

“In recent days, the Fair Board has spent significant time reviewing its options with respect to the Morgan Wallen concert scheduled for July 14th,” the board said in a statement released on Monday. “This has included conversations with numerous officials within the community, including the LaPorte County Commissioners, County Sheriff, County Council President, as well as their respective attorneys.”

“After much consideration, the decision has been made to cancel this concert,” the board added. “For those that purchased tickets, full refunds will be issued and are expected to be processed within ten (10) business days. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we address this and, as always, appreciate your support of the LaPorte County Fair.”

Wallen’s Apologizes For Racial Slur

Wallen took to Instagram in the wake of the scandal to post an apology video.

“The video you saw of me was me on hour 72 of 72 of a bender and that’s not something I’m proud of either,” he said in the video. “I let so many people down… I’m not OK with that… I also accepted some invitations from some amazing Black organizations, executives, and leaders to engage in some real and honest conversations.”

“My words matter and that word can truly hurt a person,” Wallen continued. “And at my core, that’s not what I’m OK with. I’ve got many more things to learn but I already know that I don’t want to add to any division. Our actions matter, our words matter, and I just want to encourage anyone watching to please learn from my mistakes. There is no reason to downplay what I did. It matters.”

Wallen even told his fans to stop defending him.

“Lastly, I have one favor to ask. I appreciate those who still see something in me and have defended me,” he said. “But for today, please don’t. I was wrong. It’s on me. I take ownership for this and I fully accept any penalties I’m facing.”
