Colin Kaepernick’s former teammate Takeo Spikes says the ex-NFL quarterback deserves a statue in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.

“I truly believe that he deserves some type of monument, a statue in the Smithsonian in D.C,” Takeo Spikes, who played with Kaepernick on the San Francisco 49ers, told NBC Sports Bay Area.

Though Spikes was not on the team when Kaepernick began taking a knee during the national anthem before his games, he said that he appreciates what he was doing. The former linebacker played during the 2011 and 2012 season with Kaepernick and the 49ers.

“The reason why I say this is because this man put everything on the line,” Spikes explained.

“But I applaud him simply because he decided to take a stand. He decided to draw a line in the sand and say look, ‘I can make the money, I can live a carefree life for the most part and get paid handsomely and never say a thing because I’m not affected.'”

“But he took time to look back and really just see the big picture, the spectrum when we talk about the inequalities,” Spikes said. “He decided to not only call it out, but take a stand for it.”

Liberals Have Made Kaepernick A Martyr

Though Kaepernick claimed that he was taking a knee during the anthem to protest against racial inequality in the U.S., many saw it as a clear sign of disrespect to the flag and those who have fought for it.

Nevertheless, he has become a martyr of sorts in the eyes of liberals, who believe that he has been blacklisted from the NFL due to racism.

Journalist Explains How Kaepernick Is Perceived

Journalist Josina Anderson also spoke out this week to discuss Kaepernick, saying, “I think there’s more appreciation now with the sacrifice that he made in terms of raising his voice and the backlash that he absorbed as a result to that, and obviously losing his career in terms of not being able to come back to the National Football League, though I do believe he’s doing well-off financially — not that that takes away from what he aspired to in finishing his career, but it certainly makes the pillow a lot softer.”

“What I mean by that is people have a better understanding of prejudice and bias and how that affects sometimes how people of color are treated when in these situations to the point of obviously the loss of life in ways that seem more brazen now in the era that we just came off of politically, even in comparison to when we were under the Obama administration,” she added.

University Of Nevada May Erect Kaepernick Statue

Earlier this month, the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) passed a resolution that supports building a statue of Kaepernick on campus. He played for the University of Nevada Wolf Pack football team from 2007 to 2010.

First, the resolution would need to be approved by the school’s President Brian Sandoval. Then, they would ask Colin Kaepernick for permission.

It’s unfortunate that leftists have martyrized someone who disrespected our country so blatantly.
