Ricky Gervais Obliterates Cancel Culture – Perfectly Compares It To ‘Road Rage’

British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais has never been one to be afraid of publicly defying the liberal world of Hollywood and cancel culture.

In a new interview, he once again brutally took down the cancel culture that has been running rampant in recent years in large part thanks to the radically leftwing elites of the entertainment world.

Gervais also had the perfect analogy for cancel culture, comparing it to “road rage.”

Gervais Slams Cancel Culture

While appearing on the podcast SmartLess, Gervais explained that the most dangerous part of cancel culture is how people’s livelihoods can be affected and destroyed by it.

“The scary thing is being canceled if you say the wrong thing and suddenly Netflix can take you off their platform,” Gervais said. “You could be the most woke, politically correct stand-up in the world at the moment, but you don’t know what it’s going to be like in 10 years time. You can get canceled for things you said 10 years ago.”

Gervais Exposes ‘Misunderstanding’ Of Cancel Culture

Not stopping there, the creator and star of the British version of “The Office” revealed what he thinks is the biggest “misunderstanding” of cancel culture.

“The misunderstanding about cancel culture is some people think you should be able to say anything you want without consequences and that’s not true because we’re members of society and people are allowed to criticize you,” he added. “They’re allowed to not buy your things, they’re allowed to burn your DVDs and they’re allowed to turn the telly off. What they’re not allowed to do is to bully other people into not going to see you.”

Gervais then said that the final consequences as to whether someone is really “cancelled” or not comes down to who they are in the public eye.

“Some of it’s down to politics. Some of it’s down to social media,” he continued. “It’s way too fast. Twenty years ago, if you were offended by someone on television you got a pen and paper and you went, ‘Dear BBC…’ Now you fire off a tweet and that tweet goes on the f—ing news.”

Gervais Compares Cancel Culture To ‘Road Rage

Gervais also had the perfect analogy for cancel culture, as he compared it to “road rage” because of the way it all happens in the heat of the moment.

“It’s things happening too fast that you can’t take back. People dig in and people want to be heard,” he said. “People want to feel they have an effect. It’s why people heckle a comedian. They want to feel they were there. Now people are heard.”

Despite all of this, Gervais has no intention of letting himself be canceled, and he has a brutal message for anyone who tries to do so.

“And what can they do to me? Who’s gonna cancel me? Twitter? YouTube?” he said. “If I have to, I’ll go to Hyde Park and stand up on a bench and shout sh–.”

Many people undoubtedly feel the same way about cancel culture that Gervais does, yet few are willing to speak out against it due to fears of being “cancelled” themselves.

Here’s hoping that cancel culture is one of the things that society leaves at the wayside in the coming years, because it has already gone way too far and destroyed too many lives.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
