Brandon Moreno Has “Zero Fear” About Facing Deiveson Figueiredo

Deiveson Figueiredo has put together quite the highlight reel of him finishing opponents, and has established himself as one of the most dangerous flyweights on the planet. But, Brandon Moreno is vowing he will bring it and then some against the champion at UFC 256.

Moreno has “zero fear” of ‘The God of War’

Figueiredo has made repeated headlines this year, by taking out Joseph Benavidez twice, and then by submitting Alex Perez last month at UFC 255. The bout was Figueiredo’s first title defense.

On account of his recent run, and because Figueiredo has stopped 16 opponents to date, many believe ‘The God of War’ could be the champ for a while. But, during a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Moreno had this to say about their December 12th fight.

“He’s a very hard rival – very hard,” Moreno said. “I’ve known all the time since I called him out that he’s a fighter from another planet in the sense that he’s very powerful and he’s a big fighter for the weight class.

He has good conditioning. He’s explosive.

“Alex Perez did what he could, and he actually was doing OK until he got submitted.

… I expect this to be a hard fight, but I know what I’m getting myself into. I know what’s ahead. I know how big it is to be a UFC champion.

Deiveson is not the champion for no reason, but I promise you that I have zero fear and I promise I’m not going out there to respect him at all.”

In addition, the Mexican fighter had this to say, while talking about how he matches up against the Brazilian champ.

“I’m more technical, I have more tools and I’m a lot quicker than him,” Moreno said. “The only thing you can say about Deiveson is that he’s a one-shot fighter, so I have to make that my advantage.

I know that he can surprise. I know that he has a lot of tools, good elbows, good kicks.

But I have a lot more speed than him and that’s going to be my advantage against him.”

Thoughts?

Figueiredo is a sizeable favorite right now to win the upcoming bout, with odds ranging from -274 to -365. Given his abilities and the run he’s been on, these odds aren’t surprising.

But, Moreno’s confidence is understandable. Not only is the 26-year-old a well-rounded fighter, but he is also ridiculously tough: case in point, Moreno has never been finished in an official pro-bout.

It’s worth noting that Henry Cejudo is picking Moreno to end the reign of Figueiredo.

UFC 256 will be hosted by the Apex Facility in Las Vegas.
