When it was announced that Michael Chandler had signed with the UFC, Tony Ferguson didn’t sound too interested in facing the former Bellator champ. Well, not only has Ferguson let it be known he’s down to fight Chandler, he wants to fight the UFC newcomer next month.

Ferguson challenges “putz”

For a couple of months prior to UFC 254 in October, it looked like Ferguson was going to fight Dustin Poirier next. But, the UFC couldn’t come to terms with Poirier for the bout, and the promotion reportedly looked at having Ferguson fight Chandler.

‘El Cucuy’, however, argued that he had little to gain by taking that fight. Further, Ferguson also wasn’t happy with what the UFC was offering, financially.

Well, while commenting on the UFC’s plans for a rematch between Conor McGregor and Poirier, Chandler tweeted out this.

Glad We Got Some Answers. Now Where You At @tonyfergusonxt? #CSO RT @MMAFighting
: Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier 2 officially booked for UFC 257

More recently, Ferguson responded with this.

“Time-2-Rise” # D’arceKnightRises … Again. Lets Close out 2020 In Style. Michael Chandler you Putz, Ya Asked For It. # AddedToTheListBish’ CSO

Will this happen?

So, it will be interesting to see what happens here. Given that Chandler prepared for UFC 254 as an alternate, on would think he’ll be down to fight next month, provided he’s healthy.

The timing of Ferguson’s challenge also works for the UFC, as the December 12th, UFC 256 pay-per-view recently lost its main event between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson. Nunes had to withdraw due to an injury.

That said, the card is less than a month away…

Ferguson (25-4) is coming off a stoppage loss to Justin Gaethje in May, which snapped his 12 fight winning streak.

Chandler (21-5) last competed in August and quickly took out former UFC champ, Benson Henderson.
