Paul Felder Lights up Conor McGregor, Over Questioning Irish Heritage

It remains to be seen if Paul Felder and Conor McGregor ever end up throwing hands. But if and when they do, it looks like the lead-up to the fight will be pretty, pretty intense.

Felder tells McGregor to “go blow some lines”, following insult

The 36-year-old Felder is set to face Rafael dos Anjos tonight in the main event of UFC Vegas 14, following the withdrawal of Islam Makhachev. Felder took the fight on just a few days notice.

Well, if you follow Felder, you know that he carries the nickname ‘The Irish Dragon’. Felder was born to Irish American parents in Pennsylvania, and throughout his career, he’s celebrated that heritage.

In the past, however, McGregor has questioned Felder’s Irish heritage and he’s also insulted the rugged fighter while doing so. While speaking to the media this week Felder was asked about McGregor’s previous attacks on the subject, and the fighter came with this zinger (quote via MMA Fighting).

“If he’s talking about my name which is more German, then let’s talk about his Scottish name and how he’s Scottish then,” Felder said. “Shut the f*ck up. … Go blow some lines and shut the f*ck up.”

Felder then proceeded to discuss the fact that after McGregor stopped Donald Cerrone in January, the star called him out.

“Conor McGregor vs. [Donald] ‘Cowboy’ [Cerrone] was a crazy one,” Felder said. “To have that, to see Conor make his walk in front of those crazy crowds, that was definitely something even though he’s in the division and we potentially could face off with each other someday, it was so much fun to be part of that.

“To have him even say, ‘F U to me,’ I believe, from cageside there, that one stands out.”

Could we see McGregor – Felder at some point?

As it stands right now, a future bout between McGregor and Felder seems somewhat unlikely. If Felder beats dos Anjos today, and then scores another big win to move into title contention, then the chances of the bout will rise.

Of course, it all depends on what comes next for McGregor, and how he does in an expected fight with Dustin Poirier.

But, if McGregor loses that bout, will he continue to fight? And if he wins it, one would think he’ll be tapped for a lightweight title fight.

It’s just not clear if McGregor will stick around at 155 pounds, chase after the welterweight title, or take some boxing matches moving forward.

All that said, you never know right? Maybe the ‘Notorious’ one and ‘The Irish Dragon’ will fight sooner than later.
