Following UFC 254, Conor McGregor raised eyebrows by acknowledging Khabib Nurmagomedov’s impressive performance. Now the former UFC champ has heaped praise on the lightweight champ’s grappling game.
If you’re a big fan, you know that Khabib and McGregor have been feuding for several years. The lead up to their 2018 bout was one of the most bitter and intense in the sport’s history, and McGregor made headlines with various, inflammatory remarks.
It all boiled over when after Khabib tapped out the star, he jumped the Octagon and went after Conor’s corner, sparking an ugly, brawl.
Since then, McGregor has repeatedly taken verbal jabs at Khabib and his abilities. Not long ago, McGregor opined that he was winning their bout, until he was submitted.
But, following Khabib’s impressive, submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, McGregor congratulated the champ for his performance. Then, during a recent Q&A with fans on Twitter, McGregor was asked for his thoughts on Khabib.
A phenomenal grappler fighter. The current best in the sport with it.
I’ve the answer however and they know it.
Congrats on the plumbing apprenticeship and thank you for the well wishes!
Same to you and yours
During the Q&A, McGregor was also asked whether he could return to welterweight in the future. The star said this.
For sure! I will commit to the 155lb division for 2021 however. Some great matchups to be had here, as well as unfinished business. I will show the world once again who I am, and what I’m about. Trust that!
170 is in my thoughts also however.
You know me for doubling up…
This makes a lot of sense, as there’s no question 2021 is shaping up to be a big year for the UFC’s lightweight division.
