Ken Jeong comedy WWE

Actor and comedian Ken Jeong recently gave an interview with WWE’s The BumpDuring this interview, Jeong revealed which wrestling legends influenced his comedy.

Ken Jeong Reveals Which WWE Wrestlers Influenced His Comedy

WWE Kurt Angle

Before Jeong’s comedic career took off, he was juggling comedy and being a physician. However, he stopped practicing to focus on his acting career. He’s starred in several tv shows including Dr. Ken and Community, and as a panelist on “The Masked Singer,” and is also a voice actor.

Jeong mentioned Kurt Angle as one of the WWE wrestlers who influenced his comedy. According to Jeong, he tailored his comedy material much like comedy material much like Kurt Angle.

“Even Superstars like Kurt Angle was a huge influence [on me] because… actually, I never told anyone this in any interview, but when I first started doing stand up comedy, I would tailor my material much like Kurt Angle did, where he was an Olympic gold medalist and making fun of his image. I never saw anyone do that in WWE before, where literally, a world-class athlete isn’t taking himself seriously. That’s what comedy is all about; it’s all about not taking yourself seriously.”

As you may know already, Kurt Angle was known for his in-ring comedy. Even though he had incredible wrestling abilities, not taking himself too seriously got him to new wrestling heights.

And, he referred to Bobby Heenan as ‘the sharpest comedic mind in history.’

Ken Jeong’s Feud With John Cena

Ken Jeong was influenced by John Cena, Bobby Heenan, and Kurt Angle

Jeong hosted RAW in 2009 and found himself in the ring with the former 13-time WWE Champion, John Cena.

Take a look a this:

During his interview, Jeong recalled his feud with John Cena

Jeong confirmed that the feud is not over. In fact, he would love to face the leader of the Cenation again.

“You know what? There’s still beef between me and Cena. I told WWE not to show this footage. John Cena, although he’s more famous and richer than me, I still hate him, ok! Cena, if I ever see you in a RAW or SmackDown ring, I’ve got some famous friends now. That’s all I’m saying.”

Life-Long Wrestling Fan

Apart from his storied feud with Cena, Jeong mentioned he is a lifelong wrestling fan.

“In all seriousness, I grew up a long time wrestling fan… The first match I ever saw as a kid was Ric Flair versus Ricky Steamboat. You know, just to rub elbows and do a movie with Batista, and do an angle with John Cena – I was in a movie with Dwayne Johnson – just to have met all three of the biggest Superstars of all-time, I get choked up. I think that in comedy and sports entertainment, there’s totally a lot of parallels that go hand and hand.”

Even though Jeong called out John Cena for a fight, I doubt it is in the cards. Cena has not been in the WWE for quite some time.

Since making the move to Hollywood, Cena has had little involvement in the WWE.

However, a feud between Jeong and Cena during a big pay-per-view could lure some viewers back to the brand.

Cena did recently appear on The Tonight Show. During the show, he mentioned how his in-ring career is not over.

‘And as my in-ring career is not as active – it’s not over, but it’s not as active – I wanted to continue to send messages to those younger viewers, because so many times, parents will be like, “Hey, your Never Give Up words have helped my son or daughter.” ‘

So, never say never when it comes to the Jeong and Cena feud!
