Ellen DeGeneres Dealt Crushing Blow: Ratings Plummet After ‘Toxic’ Workplace Scandal

The ratings are in and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” took a pounding from the torrent of accusations calling her behavior and workplace “toxic”.

The 30-time Emmy-winning host has spent the past few months hanging on the edge of being “cancelled” after dozens of current and former employees came forward to accuse her of exhibiting diva-like behavior and of turning a blind eye to racism, intimidation, and sexual misconduct on the set of her eponymous talk show.

Ratings Plummet For ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’

Now, things have gotten a whole lot worse for Ellen, as it’s been revealed that ratings of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” have plummeted since the new season premiered last month.

Nielsen revealed that Ellen’s ratings have dropped a whopping 38% from where they were at this same time last year, according to Daily Mail.

The show has averaged just 1.7 million viewers this season, a significant drop from the number of viewers last season.

Have Fans Turned On Her?

A drop like this indicates pretty clearly that fans have turned on Ellen DeGeneres. It seems they’ve taken to heart the many negative claims that were made against her.

Ellen’s brand took a massive hit from the mounting “toxic” claims given the fact that her mantra had always been to “be kind”. Something the daytime host said at the end of every show.

Current and former staffers, however, have claimed that Ellen DeGeneres is anything but “kind” when the cameras stop rolling.

“That ‘be kind’ bulls–t only happens when the cameras are on. It’s all for show,” one former staffer said over the summer, according to US Magazine. “I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for show.”

While ratings for the season premiere of Ellen DeGeneres daytime talk show last month were the highest they’d been since 2016, they plummeted almost immediately from there.

This indicates that many viewers only tuned into the premiere episode to see how Ellen would addressed the “toxic” allegations.

Something the talk show host had pledged to do leading up to the premiere.

Ellen DeGeneres Apologizes For “Toxic” Workplace In Opening Monologue

“As you may have heard this summer, there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should’ve happened,” DeGeneres said in the opening monologue of that show.

She added, “I take that very seriously, and I want to say I’m so sorry to the people who were affected.”

“I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes with responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show,” Ellen concluded. “This is ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ I am Ellen DeGeneres.”

Ellen went on to try and convince her fans that she really is a “kind” person.

“The truth is I am that person that you see on TV. I am also a lot of other things,” she said. “Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious, I get frustrated, I get impatient, and I am working on all of that.”

“I am a work in progress. I am especially working on the impatience thing, and it’s not going well because it’s not happening fast enough, I will tell you that,” DeGeneres added.

Ellen’s Apology In Opening Monologue Fails To Win Back Viewers

Ellen concluded her opening monologue by saying that she hopes her show can still bring joy to people. She hopes to distract them from their problems for an hour every day.

“My hope is that we can still be a place of happiness and joy,” DeGeneres said. “I’m committed to making this the best season that we have ever had.”

Given Ellen DeGeneres’ plummeting ratings since this monologue, however, it looks like fans didn’t buy it.

If these low ratings continue, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” may end up being “cancelled” after all.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
