Elijah Burke Being Chris Benoit

The last person to wrestle Chris Benoit before his double-murder suicide was Elijah Burke, who recalls an odd conversation they had. Also, Samoa Joe’s status on a return to the ring.

Elijah Burke On Being Chris Benoit’s Final Match

The tale of Chris Benoit is one of tragedy and questions. 13 years after Benoit’s death and people are still not sure what to make of the situation.

By now, we all know the sad story. Benoit killed is wife and son before committing suicide over the course of several days in June 2007.

At the time, Benoit was part of the ECW brand and scheduled to win the title at the upcoming pay per view. Of course, that never happened as Benoit never made it to the venue.

Therefore, his final match was against Elijah Burke on June 19. While speaking to The Wrestling Epicenter, Burke recalled his final conversation with Benoit and if anything felt off.

Burke Recalls His Last Conversation With Benoit

“No, not at all,” said Burke.”One thing Chris was big on, and hindsight is 20/20 on this if I could say, ‘oh, that kind of makes sense’, is just the fact that he said, ‘talk to me out there. I might forget.’”

“So, after everything that happened, when it came back that he had like the brain of an 80-year-old with Alzheimer’s, that was like, ‘hmm, that is interesting’. In this business, I was always taught that we should communicate in the ring.”

“So, I didn’t think anything of it. That could have been a sign. Chris Benoit asking me to talk to him?”

“But, other than that, there was nothing that could have tipped me or anyone else off to the extent of the degeneration of his brain per the results of his test.”

The actions were shocking and WWE quickly erased Benoit from their history. To this day, people still question if his brain looked like an 80 year old with Alzheimers.

There were drugs and steroids found in his system, but the remarks about having Alzheimers has been debated. Some have wonder how Benoit would have been able to travel the country for so long if his brain was in such bad shape.

In all likelihood, we will never know what truly led to those horrific events. One of the most talented wrestlers at the time tarnished everything over his actions during 72 hours.

Samoa Joe’s Future

Samoa Joe retains his role on the Raw commentary team

Since joining WWE, Samoa Joe has showed his talents inside the ring and now at the commentary table. Despite Joe calling the action for the past several months, he is not done inside the ring.

While speaking on the Wilde On podcast, Joe discussed what he is currently doing.

“Right now I’m enjoying commentary on Raw,” said Joe. “It’s been a fun challenge. Obviously, I’m not done in the ring by no means.”

“I think right now I’m exploring things. Aside from that, I’m doing voice acting which is fun and very cool. It’s a very enjoyable thing.”

“I have a project coming up with Warner Brothers. I’m very fortunate and I’m very happy that I’m doing the things I’m doing right now.”
