Disney Plus Puts Trigger Warnings On Several Childhood Classics

To fit in with the 2020 narrative, Disney Plus has added a trigger warning for some beloved classic children’s movies. Peter Pan, Dumbo, Fantasia, and Lady and the Tramp now have content warning labels about stereotypes and racial insensitivity.

This warning intends to make people aware that Disney no longer approves of the messaging in the films. But rather than removing the film, the company wants us all to learn from it. There likely would be outrage if suddenly they removed these traditional movies so they opted for the warning instead.

Today’s Standards Of Political Correctness

Hollywood and the liberal left want to have everything modernized to today’s standards.

Everything is scrutinized for political correctness and diversity. The streaming giant is taking aim at the company’s past by providing viewers with a notice that the movies mistreat and misrepresent minorities and other cultures.

“These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now,” the new warning reads. “Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together. Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe.”

Along with the trigger warning is a link to Stories Matter, which highlights the importance of diversity in entertainment and story telling.

Gone With The Wind And Blazing Saddles

Today’s cultural standards are so stringent that even recent shows like “Community” no longer make the grade.

There was an attempt by HBO Max to shelve Gone With The Wind. But, the ensuing outrage forced the network to return it to the streaming service.

From Today:

Since the inception of Disney Plus, the company has also notably opted not to include its 1946 musical film “Song of the South” in its list of content. The movie has not been available in any format for more than three decades, presumably because of its racist depictions of Black Americans.

Disney’s actions reflect the entertainment industry’s reckoning with the racism inherent in content from previous decades. Other streaming sites have also made steps to acknowledge the negative portrayals of people of color in movies and shows on their services. HBO Max pulled “Gone With the Wind” from the streaming service in June but later restored the film with a notice that the film “denies the horrors of slavery.”

Shows like “30 Rock” and “Community,” which are much more recent than the Disney films labeled for their negative depictions, have also had episodes pulled from streaming sites for use of blackface.

The political correctness police decided to remake Blazing Saddles in a culturally sensitive fashion. The Mel Brooks’ classic offends everyone, so it is hard to imagine this reboot being anything close to the original.
