SmackDown In A Nutshell: Jey Uso Getting Ready For Clash

We wrap up another wonderful week of wrestling with another SmackDown in a Nutshell. Hot on the heels of last week’s surprise, Jey Uso is getting ready for the Clash of Champions.

Yes, that still is not a typo. Jey Uso is getting a shot at his cousin and the Universal Championship. That happens at Clash of Champions later this month.

That isn’t all that we have to look forward to, of course. It just happens that it’s the most significant feud (that happens with the big belt).

So what else is on the schedule this week?

Well, we sure hope to hear from Bayley. Last week, the SmackDown Women’s Champion destroyed her on again, off again BFF.

If that isn’t your bag, how about the promise of a new character joining the Firefly Funhouse?

See? Plenty happening, so we wrap up another wrestling week with a bang.

Jey Uso is getting ready for the Clash…

So let’s crack open this Nutshell!

Best Match of the night:

My best guess…give me the women’s #1 contender match.

I say guess because, well, I feel compelled to have a best of the night…but not a single match really inspired me.

Worst match of the night:

Too many options here.

Otis, while protected with the briefcase, had a really short match.

Lucha House Party versus the SmackDown Tag Champs was nothing decent.

Heck, even the main event was no great shakes.

Star of the Night

This is a tough call for me. But, on the heels of earning yet another title shot, how about some love for Nikki Cross?

I’ve thought that she might be close to a title run…after so many chances, could this finally be her time?

Honorable mentions to Sami Zayn…

Also to Roman Reigns. Sometimes, a heel turn is perfect.

Spot of the Night:

Really nothing here.

Jobber of the Night:

Even the jobber spot seems tough.

However, on the heels of a really short and uninteresting match, how about John Morrison here tonight?

Upset of the Night:

Mildly surprised we got another title shot for Nikki Cross. I like it, just didn’t expect it.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

Well, the Fun House has a Walrus. That was one of two new characters who were at least mentioned on the show.

We didn’t get to see the parrot yet though.

Botch of the night:

Only one I have was from Cole…and even Graves gave him grief for it.

Cole said Sheamus hit the Irish Curse on Jey Uso. In reality, he had just hit White Noise.

Ooops.

LOL Moment of the night:

In it’s own odd and twisted way, the Firefly Fun House can provide some humor. This week was a good example for that.

Noteworthy Moment:

Not much, especially when compared to the prior week’s episode.

We got a new fun house character.

Alexa Bliss certainly seems to be moving toward heel…or, we could argue, she’s just aligning herself with Bray Wyatt. She showed this off by hitting a Sister Abigail during the #1 contender match.

Speaking of #1 contender matches, Nikki Cross claimed this one.

Overall lowlights:

My biggest issues with tonight?

Mostly short matches, and nothing really was exceptional.

I’m waiting to get reports in that this show had a ton of way-too-late Vince McMahon editing, which leads to the show being less than decent.

Overall highlights:

The best stuff of the entire night? Roman Reigns heel work.

Not saying he wasn’t good, or didn’t seem happy as a babyface…

However, in less than a month of being a heel, he seems to be really growing into the role as the brand’s top heel.

See what happens when you actually put the wrestler in a position to succeed?

After the final bell:

Maybe it was like a holiday hangover, but this week’s show felt largely underwhelming.
This wasn’t necessarily a bad summary:

Though, this is also kind of spot on. Flip a coin…

But…either way…Jey Uso and WWE are getting ready for the Clash.
