Conor McGregor is making news again on account of his Twitter account, as the former UFC champ is reporting that he’s fighting boxing star, Manny Pacquiao next. In other news, which may or may not be related…Dana White recently said he could have a big boxing announcement soon.
McGregor claims he’s boxing Pacquiao next
Recently McGregor likely raised eyebrows throughout combat sports, by making a series of tweets. Several of the tweets allegedly included images of text messages he exchanged with White this past spring.
The tweets show McGregor pushing for another fight, and at the time, he floated bouts with Justin Gaethje and Diego Sanchez.
To Diego Sanchez…
I seen your recent comments about your final bout and I am in!
After you fought Pereira, I had requested for myself and you to compete in Dublin. This was back in February when I was working on opposition for my season, pre covid.

Here’s the finish of that exchange. Pre covid. Pre retirement.
Never turned down offer of Tony as was suggested at the time. I stated months in advance (early February) that I was not interested in being an alternate for two consistent pullouts.

But, following those tweets, McGregor tweeted out this statement.
“Anyway all water under the bridge who gives a fook. I’m boxing Manny Pacquiao next in the Middle East.”

Well, recently BT Sport posted an interview with White, and in it, he reported he could be making a big boxing announcement soon. If you follow White, you know that for a couple of years now, he’s said he’s going to jump into the boxing promotion game.

Could this be related? Could McGregor – Pacquiao happen?
Now, at first glance, it’s tempting to conclude that a boxing match between McGregor and Pacquiao isn’t going to happen. After all, McGregor was stopped by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their 2017, boxing match, and since then White hasn’t sounded too keen on McGregor returning to the ring.
But, both McGregor and Pacquiao have expressed an interest in fighting before, and it wasn’t long ago White also said the UFC was working on the Irish star’s return.
White even characterized it as “fun stuff”.
McGregor was also in the headlines earlier this month, when it was reported he had been questioned in connection to an attempted, sexual assault allegation. The former UFC champ and his team have vehemently denied the claim.
