UFC Fight Night: Brunson Vs. Shahbazyan Results, Live Blog

UFC Fight Night Ongoing Blog

We don’t see it very often but we open the night with a draw between Chris Gutierrez and Cody Durden. Durden controlled the entire first round, claiming it 10-8, but Gutierrez rallied to win the final two.

Former UFC champion Dominick Cruz was impressed by featherweight Jamall Emmers, as he swept Vincent Cachero in a prelim bout.

It appears to be the night of the low-blow, as all three fights have been paused for an accidental shot.

Nathan Maness improved to 12-1 in his career, picking up the decision victory by scores of 29-27.

Despite missing weight by almost five pounds, Jonathan Martinez got his hand raised, earning the first finish of the night. Martinez stopped veteran Frankie Saenz less than a minute into the third round with a vicious attack.

Disappointing start to the main card as the planned middleweight contest between Kevin Holland and Trevin Giles was removed.

You know it is going to be fun when you get veterans like Bobby Green and Lando Vannata inside the Octagon. The trash-talking has been consistent from both men, as they are teasing each other with each strike.

Back in 2017, they battled to a split draw at UFC 216.

In this one, the judges ruled in favor of Green, as he swept all three scorecards.

Man, Vicente Luque is a dangerous, dangerous dude at welterweight. With a nasty series of strikes, he finished Randy Brown in the second round for his second straight win.

Luque is now 19-7-1 overall, but an incredible 8-1 over his last night with the lone loss coming via decision to Stephen Thompson.

Joanne Calderwood opted to stay active after losing out on a title shot against Valentina Shevchenko when the champion was hurt. She will take on a stiff test, too, in former Invicta FC champion Jennifer Maia.

And that decision backfired in a big way for Calderwood, as Maia finishes her in the first round. The 31-year-old Maia has put herself in a great position having only lost to former title contender Katlyn Chookagian since 2018.

Man, Derek Brunson nearly finished Edmen Shahbazyan at the end of the second round. It appeared as if the unbeaten prospect was out just as the bell sounded. Herb Dean had the referee come in and check over Shahbazyan and he was allowed to continue.

It took Brunson just a matter of seconds in the third to finish him, ending it quickly in the third for a key win in his career.
