Rafael dos Anjos Calls Conor McGregor Out of Retirement, Takes Poke at Nate Diaz

Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos were booked to fight in 2016, only to have the fight fall through. Well, although McGregor is apparently retired, RDA is still hoping to get his hands on the massive star.

RDA calls out McGregor again

McGregor was set to fight dos Anjos back in 2016, when the latter was ruling the UFC’s lightweight division. A foot injury, however, forced dos Anjos out of the fight, and McGregor ended up fighting Nate Diaz.

Well, in recent years, dos Anjos has called out McGregor several more times, to no avail. Although McGregor recently announced he’s retiring (again), RDA’s hoping to change his mind (warning: explicit language).

Not only that, recently RDA also took a poke at Diaz, who submitted McGregor in their first encounter. The two fought again in August, 2016, and McGregor took the rematch via decision.

Both fights were two of the biggest in UFC history.

Dos Anjos faced Diaz in 2014 and cruised to a decision win.

Could we see dos – Anjos vs. McGregor yet?

You have to admire RDA for his tenacity, in terms of trying to secure a bout with McGregor. Further, his offer to face McGregor at 155, 165 or 170 is interesting.

But, right now, it seems highly unlikely that McGregor would pursue this fight, or that the UFC would be interested.

Dos Anjos is one of the most respected fighters in the game, and he’s fought many, top-tier fighters during his UFC run. But, the 35-year-old has lost four of his last five fights.

So, both McGregor and the UFC would have little to gain, and a lot to lose, by booking this match-up.

Now, does any of that mean it wouldn’t be a compelling bout to watch? No. No it doesn’t.
