Now That Aunt Jemima Got Canceled, These Brands Might Be Next

Cancel culture finally came for Aunt Jemima and Quaker Foods promptly caved to their demands. The company announced the beloved pancake and syrup will get a new name and image because “Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype.” A longtime breakfast staple is no more thanks to the PC police.

Cancel culture is riding a high after their wins with Land O’Lakes, Gone With The Wind, and more. So now they’ve decided to declare a war on pancakes. You don’t mess with breakfast, but that is exactly what they are doing.

Aunt Jemima fans likely saw the writing on the wall as the left continues its push to cancel anything controversial or in conflict with their narrative.

There have been calls to rebrand Aunt Jemima for decades. When the iconic brand started trending on Twitter yesterday however, that was the final straw.

A Quaker Foods representative said, “”While work has been done over the years to update the brand in a manner intended to be appropriate and respectful, we realize those changes are not enough.”

So the breakfast staple will officially be stripped of its logo and renamed.

Now that the PC police came for Aunt Jemima, other longstanding and beloved brands will likely be targeted next.  Mrs. Butterworth and Uncle Ben might want to enter the witness protection program.

On Wednesday’s Today Show, Riché Richardson, an associate professor at Cornell University spoke about Aunt Jemima foreshadowing the retirement of the pancake and syrup brand.

“It’s an image that harkens back to the antebellum plantation … Aunt Jemima is that kind of stereotype is premised on this idea of Black inferiority and otherness,” Richardson said.

Quaker Foods Discontinues Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix

The pancake mix was developed in 1889 by the Pearl Milling Company. It was the world’s first pancake ready mix. The brand has had many makeovers throughout its history with a couple of women portraying Aunt Jemima at the World’s Fair and Disneyland. 

Quaker added many new items to the Aunt Jemima brand including syrup and frozen waffles.

The Aunt Jemima site explains what pancakes stand for: 

Aunt Jemima pancakes stand for warmth, nourishment, and trust – qualities you’ll find in loving moms from diverse backgrounds who want the very best for their families.

That is the image many of us have when eating pancakes. A belly full of warm pancakes provides a great and familiar experience. It’s as if Aunt Jemima herself is giving you a hug to start your morning off right. 

Is that not true anymore?

Cancel Cultures Comes For Our Pancakes

It’s hard to imagine the canceling of the Aunt Jemima brand as having an impact on police reform.

Many of us grew up eating Aunt Jemima brand or Mrs. Butterworth’s. I don’t know of anyone who developed racist thoughts towards their pancakes.

Who doesn’t love pancakes? They are are a universal favorite that are so delicious we even eat them for dinner sometimes!

There already is a push on social media to ditch Mrs. Butterworth’s. Nothing is apparently safe anymore, not even breakfast. 

Of course is it Quaker Foods and its parent company Pepsi’s right as a private company to rebrand their products. But, this highlights the intensity of the cancel culture mob.

Right now nothing is off limits for the leftist mob to go after and ban. Not even pancakes.
