“I DON’T SEE COLOR”. . I have been thinking a lot about the saying, “I don’t see color”… Growing up I had multiple best friends that were black. I thought that i could say that I’m not racist because when I looked at them I didn’t see their color, I didn’t even notice they were black. But that’s the problem. I didn’t see their color, which meant I didn’t really see them. I didn’t see that their experience was different from mine simply because they were black. . I heard someone the other day say “I love living in west austin… I’m not racist, but there’s no Mexicans or blacks on my side of town it’s all white people.” & it pained me. That person may not be conscious of it, but he was associating white w/ wealth. We have been conditioned to view black & Mexicans as poor. To associate them w/ poverty. In my 15 years of modeling & getting high paying jobs… I’ve never seen a black person hired. It’s not because they’re not Beautiful. It’s because of the programming we’ve received. We have been conditioned for decades to think this way. The mindset & conditioning associating black people w/being poor is what is keeping them poor. It’s keeping them separate. If you pay attention you’ll see that this is our countries conditioning. . Maybe you don’t think that you’re racist, & maybe you don’t see color… But maybe this movement (which IS a movement, not a moment)… Is asking you to SEE color. To see the conditioning. To see that their experience is different than ours. . It took me a while to post because i didn’t feel smart enough to say something that could possibly enlighten people, or help in any way. That is my own self-worth issue. But if this post says anything, I hope that it says that I stand in solidarity w/people of color. & I choose to see your color so that I can truly see you. ??✊✊?✊?✊???. . ?: @simonlopez . . @m0rg0 @kylandyoung @senor_mcfly I’m sorry for never asking you about your experience & what it was like in school to be a person of color. I’m sorry for assuming that you weren’t experiencing racism, just because I may have not been sensitive to it enough to see it. Thank you for loving me in the midst of my blindness on this issue. ???
