Khabib provides an update on his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov

The UFC lightweight champ’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, has been in a Russian medical facility for weeks. The renowned contracted the coronavirus earlier this year, which in turn, reportedly exacerbated heart issues the renowned coach had and led to a stroke.

Abdulmanap’s condition has worsened on a couple of occasions, but more recently it was reported he had stabilized. According to a new report from RT, Khaib recently said the following, while appearing on Russian TV.

“His condition is still serious, he’s still in intensive care,” said Khabib.

“The coronavirus itself is behind him, but the virus has had consequences for his kidneys and his heart.

“As for the virus, there’s no need to worry, only about the other consequences.”

Khabib also reportedly said this about his father.

“I visit him, he recognizes me, but there’s no communication because he’s connected to [medical] devices.

“Every day they let me in, I spend half an hour [with him], I hold his hand.

“When I ask: ‘Father, do you recognize me?’ He gestures and lets me know.”

“These are some of the best doctors in the world… I have no concerns [about my father’s care], many thanks to them.

“In that respect, all’s well. It takes time, because the consequences are very difficult, and the rehabilitation period will be long and tough”

Hopefully, Khabib’s father continues to improve and his recovery goes faster than expected.

Nurmagomedov’s next bout

Currently, it’s expected that Nurmagomedov will return to the cage after summer, possibly in September, for a bout with interim champ Justin Gaethje.

The condition of his father, however, could play a factor in that timeline. The undefeated fighter hasn’t competed since September, when Khabib submitted Dustin Poirier.
