Christian actor Matthew McConaughey graduation speech

Matthew McConaughey offered some pearls of wisdom to graduates who are missing out on a traditional high school experience. The Christian actor is known for his Texas can-do attitude and he showcased that to the graduates. In a powerful commencement speech, Matthew McConaughey encourages them to “act today in ways that you will respect tomorrow.”

Alright, Alright, Alright!

Matthew McConaughey addressed the 2020 class at the Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management.

Like everything during the pandemic, this was different as it was a virtual ceremony. But, the message is an important one for all of us to hear.

During a “Good Morning America” interview, McConaughey was asked about his encouraging speech so he repeated it so we all could hear it.

In typical McConaughey fashion, it encourages looking on the bright side and refusing to cling to victimhood while finding ways to be a good person.

“To you I say congratulations,” the actor began his speech. “You got no prom, you got no real ceremony — don’t feel bad, at least you’re originals. You are the one and onlys. You’re gonna have a lot of fun for the rest of your life knowing that.”

“Inspire yourselves and others and laugh as much as possible and have as much fun as you can, when you can,” McConaughey added. “Life’s hard even without a damn pandemic. You realize that now, and you’re gonna enjoy your life a whole lot more later.”

Many young people are not taught how to react to failure.

Their parents keep them in a bubble to protect them but this only causes problems down the line as kids grow up into adults who can’t handle rejection.

McConaughey doesn’t allow such nonsense. He understands failure helps makes us better.

“Don’t be afraid to fail. Learn who you are, take risks to be that person, then persist and pursue to get what you want,” he told the graduates.

“Make it count and above all, just keep living because not only is that what we are all here to do, that’s what you and your job allow us to do. Thank you. It is about us.”

Don’t Let Partisan Politics Divide You

“In the last month or so a false divide has been created by some partisan politics and all of a sudden the narrative became, if you wanted to work, you’re obviously on the far right, if you want to stay home, you’re obviously on the far left,” he continued. “If you want to wear a mask, you’re on the left, if you don’t, you’re on the right. And that’s all false. It’s untrue,” he continued.

McConaughey then explained that the PSA was a way “to remind us all we need to keep our eyes on the ball, we need all hands on the rope.”

“Our purpose is to beat the virus together, that’s the PSA. It’s about us, that’s how we’ll do it,” the actor said. “It’s about us, as in the U.S.A. So let’s stick together through this.”
