Francis Ngannou

In a matter of seconds, Francis Ngannou made sure everyone would remember him and his performance at UFC 249.

Ngannou, a former UFC title contender, blitzed Jairzinho Rozenstruik, finishing the previously unbeaten heavyweight in just 20 seconds.

But for Ngannou, what’s next remains a mystery.

Viewed as a top contender, the division is currently on hold as Daniel Cormier waits to challenge Stipe Miocic for the belt. Miocic is not ready to fight due to the coronavirus pandemic and his position as a firefighter in Ohio.

Cormier, meanwhile, said he will wait to compete for the belt before retiring.

“I don’t know,” Ngannou said when asked what is next for him. “We will wait and see.”

As for his showing vs. Rozenstruik, Ngannou admitted it was a challenge in that he wanted to prove the rising prospect still needed more time.

“When I heard he called me out, I knew he didn’t know what he was doing,” Ngannou said. “He has a lot of potential, but he has to take a step back before fighting someone like me.”

A 15-week camp prepared Ngannou for the bout, and he barely needed more than a second per week to dominate his challenger.

The 33-year-old has won four consecutive fights with all four victories coming by way of knockout inside of the first round. During that stretch, he has also finished former champions Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.
