Jon Jones

With too much free time on his hands, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has found himself in trouble once more.

Jones was arrested early Thursday morning outside of his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and negligent use of a firearm.

According to a report by KOAT out of New Mexico, Jones was found in his vehicle with his running and a half-empty bottle of Recuerdo with him. There was also a black handgun next to Jones.

He has since been released, with a bond arraignment hearing scheduled for April 9.

Police administrated a breathalyzer test, to which Jones tested for “at least” twice the legal limit. He denied knowing anything about the reported gunshots made during the call.

Jones, who has had countless run-ins with the law over the past several years, had stayed trouble-free for quite a while. He scored victories over Dominick Reyes, Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith in 2019, marking the first time he had fought at least three times in a year since 2011.

The UFC offered a statement on the arrest to ESPN, saying “UFC is aware of the situation regarding Jon Jones in Albuquerque early this morning. The organization has been on contact with Jones’ management team and is currently gathering additional information.”
