Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger Joining WWE HOF, HQ Employees Staying Home

Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger Joining WWE HOF

While life and events seem to be coming to a screeching halt, all in the name of safety amidst the coronavirus pandemic, some things are still happening. In the WWE, that means we are still having the Hall of Fame Class of 2020 announced-though at this point, the event itself is likely at risk of being cancelled or postponed. So with that in mind, there is another name we can officially add to the 2020 class. That latest name is Japanese legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger.

Liger joins an exceptional 2020 class that already includes Dave “The Animal” Batista and the nWo, represented by “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman. We are also going to see Nikki and Brie Bella be inducted. Last week it was also announced that The British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith, would finally be going in. JBL has also been confirmed as an inductee. There are still a few other slots left to be announced, as there has not been a celebrity inductee announced yet. We also have not learned of this year’s Warrior Award recipient yet.

Liger is certainly a worthy honoree. His career, predominantly in Japan, is the stuff of legend. It may be a bit of a bummer that many fans might only know of him by name and reputation. The vast majority of his career was outside of WWE. He did work a TakeOver match in the more recent past, but other than that, his stateside work was predominantly for WCW.

Regardless of where he shined, he was one of the best and brightest of his generation. As such, he is very deserving of the honor. The downside of this now is…we don’t know when or if any ceremony might take place.

HQ Employees Staying Home

In more news influenced by the global coronavirus pandemic,  WWE HQ employees are staying home. Of course, for those paying attention to the news, many around the United States (and, for that matter, the world), are doing the same.

WWE officials did a trial run of some of the Connecticut based HQ staff working remote last week. Now, the effort is no longer in trial, and is considered for all employees out of an abundance of caution. The Center For Disease Control has issued guidelines restricting public gatherings to less than fifty people. In most offices, that number would easily be exceeded. PWInsider confirmed the news, that the company today directed all HQ staff to work remotely for the near term while states work to control the outbreak.

WWE staff join many others in working from home. Many schools, including those in nearby New York City and New Jersey, have shut down for an extended period of time as well. These restrictions are being done in an effort to “flatten the curve” of the outbreak. It is good to see WWE corporate is doing the right thing for it’s office staff. Now, the wrestling world waits to see what might happen to WrestleMania 36.

John Deegan

Introduced to professional wrestling in the 1980's thanks to Superstars and Saturday Night's Main Event, John's passion for the medium was reborn thanks to ECW in the 90's. A former in-ring "talent" with a career 0-2 record, he finds it more rewarding, and far less painful, to write about wrestling now.
