“Dark Side Of The Ring” Helped Chris Benoit’s Son Let Go Of Pain

Dark Side of the Ringa documentary series from 2019 had a lasting effect on many people. Season 1 looked at subjects such as Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, and also the Von Erich Family and Fabulous Moolah.

The second season of the series just returned and includes interviews with Chris Benoit’s son David.

David Benoit Let Go Of 13 Years Of Pain

David Benoit is the son of Chris Benoit, a former WWE superstar. Benoit was one of the most esteemed WWE superstars.

Unfortunately, Chris was also at the center of a tragedy. On June 24th, 2007, Benoit murdered his second wife and his seven-year-old son Daniel. Shortly afterwards, he killed himself.

Evidently, David Benoit has carried around a lot of pain due to the crimes his father committed when he was a teenager. Series two covers the controversial topic of the Benoit murders. David admitted that talking about his father during the show allowed him to let go of 13 years of pain.

“I let it all out, and I felt like a new man and yeah. I got to select everyone I wanted, so Dean [Malenko], Chris [Jericho], Vicky [Guerrero], those are the main people I picked.”

Other Former WWE  Superstars Speak About Chris Benoit

As you may have deduced from David’s statement, other former WWE superstars have spoken out about Chris Benoit as well. David chose the wrestlers who had a bond with his father.

During an interview with WrestleZone, David admitted that some of the moments in the documentary were hard hitting. He also mentions how Chris Jericho and Chavo Guerrero supported him after the death of his father, while he didn’t even receive a phone call from Vince McMahon.

“He’s [Chris Jericho] played a big role in my life. He’s always been there for me. Only two people that really been there for me were Chavo and Chris when the whole thing went down.”

The WWE’s Stance On Chris Benoit

Since the murders in 2007, the WWE has tried their best to distance their associations with Chris Benoit. The company does not want to be associated with the murders, even though they are indirectly responsible for them. At least this is what many people believe.

Nobody could comprehend the actions of Chris Benoit after they happened. However, there are numerous theories that are going around including that Benoit suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy. CTE is a condition caused by brain damage. In Benoit’s case, it is believed that shots to the head during his wrestling career caused the tragedy.

Even now, WWE fans want to see Chris Benoit in the Hall of Fame. Not everyone believes he is the monster many people believe him to be, including his own son David.

So, it will be interesting what he has to say during the Dark Side of the Ring.

Other Stories Covered In Season Two

Series 2 contains more stories than that of Chris Benoit. In addition to the Chris Benoit story, the series also looks at Jimmy Snuka, David Schultz, Dino Bravo, The Road Warriors and more. All stories are narrated by Chris Jericho.
